In the spirit of the recent dicussion about guitar decals and painting, I've decided to get a custom paint job on my black SUB1. My cousin, who holds a degree in art, agreed to do it, but she had never painted a guitar before. She doesn't know what kind of paint to use. I'm also worried about paint wearing off with time, so I'm thinking I should put some sort of protective coating on top of the pain job, but again, I have no clue what to use.
If someone here could help me with this questions, I would really appreciate it.

Also, how would a custom paint job affect the value of instrument?

Thank you

Can't help about the paint other than I believe some use automotive paints.

As for the re-sale value, people will pay what they feel is worth it. Some people will pay big $$$ for stuff like that, others are more "keep it original" and feel that the value decreased. One of those, you have to throw it out there to see.

What kind of paint job? There a place in CA that will paint it in sparkles if you want and from what I've read they do really good work.

Hope it helps, Glenn |B)

Thanks Glenn, but I'm not after sparkle :p And I don't feel like another round of shipping to Cali - the wait is too long.

Well I'm glad she's experimenting on your SUB1 and not mine :D

Don't worry, she pretty damn good. I don't have any of her work in digital to show off, but take my word for it. It's the technical aspects that worry me, and until I figure which paints to use and all that, she's not getting her hands on my SUB :p
