well, since I wanted my black MM Sub 5 bass to have a white pickguard, but couldnt find any...well I had it made by a friend of the family, he makes cabinets and whatnot for a living, and since the original pickguard of the bass is made out Formica with a thin aluminum layer I figuerd maybe he could use a small spare piece of white glossy Formica to make the pickguard, and he did. so.

nice idea ! and good result too ! I bought a sub 5 exactly like yours a few months ago and i'm wandering why i do not have much tone on G and D strings. I brought it back to my dealer and he adjusted the pickup a bit more higher in order to get it closer to those 2 strings but the result is still not what i was expecting. should i try other kind of strings ? or is it normal for this bass ?

Nice idea and great result. Did he tell you what tool he used to cut the formica? I was thinking if I did that and used heavy scissors or shears the edges would not come out neatly.

I do know he used a power tool, first he made a thick woodtemplate out of my original pickguard and the placed the template on the formica and used some sort of power tool, like a rotor sander (if thats how u call it).

I did notice that on the tone of the G-string...I sent mine to a guy who repairs guitars and instruments to adjust the bridge so that the strings would be nearer to the neck for some nice tapping. When I went to pick it up he said he adjusted the pickup because the G-string was too far away from it. Since then I havent had any problems with the tone. Also try new strings, I always buy Ernie Ball Power Slinky Bass 5 strings.

No idea how that one was done, but personally I would probably do something like cutting it to a rough (but slightly larger) size with a hacksaw or shears or whatever, then sanded/filed it down to the right size and finish at the edges
