I've recently seen the light and purchased a rad red Luke after years of playing EC signature guitars.

This is the best guitar I've ever played and it's pretty near utopia for me. But, it's not quite there which got me wondering...

1) What would be my dream guitar in terms of looks, pickups etc
2) Why EBMM hasn't established a custom shop bearing in mind how successful they have been for other guitar makers.

My ideal would be an Asis SS with Luke neck, Luke pickups - WOW!

If you had the chance to place a custom order with EBMM what would you have and why?

I look forward to reading your wish lists. Hope some one at EBMM does too!

Compared to most companies EBMM already gives a custom shop service, there are many options on the non-signature models plus the numerous colour options on all the range (BP can quote the figures).

We all would like our ‘ideal’ guitar but my way of thinking has changed since I bought an EBMM, I would rather own several that produced a good range of sounds, and it’s also nice to have a few guitars because I get bored of using the same one all the time.

I also played an EC for 15 years before I bought an EBMM, I thought it delivered the ultimate combination of sounds but the actual quality of the finish, the wiring etc is not that good. The Luke is on another level, it has a high quality feel to it and is up there with any ‘custom’ guitar that I have tried, and it delivers a good range of sounds. The EC has barely left the case in the last few years.

If I was to customise an EBMM, it would be an Albert Lee with an EC style mid boost circuit, now that would be the ultimate Str@t killer!:D

I would order an Axis with a supremely quilted top and matching headstock overlay, locking Floyd type bridge that was uprouted so it could float, coil tap switch or push/pull pot, and I'd move the pickup selector to the upper bout like on a Les Paul. I'd try to be creative with the color, but they have so many cool finishes now, I'd probably just get an existing finish. If I could get two, the second would be with custom graphics and a rosewood fingerboard, otherwise same as the first.

Not that there is anything wrong with the guitars they are producing now...............these things (and I hate to say it, as I have been using Gibsons for the previous 25 years) are as good as the Gibson Custom Shop stuff at a fraction of the cost. If they could do a coil tap option and a trem route for pull ups on the Axis, it would be the ultimate guitar. Having said that, I still think it is the best thing I have played, and I won't change mine even slightly.

guys.. if it hasnt been done, its for a reason ;)

if you want custom, go get the bfr's! i can vouch for the tone block doing its magic!!!!
even though i only have a "lousy" 20th sr5 ;)
that bass is alive... ALIVE i tell ya! not to mention the b string. its so FAT sounding, with plenty of overtones to keep it lively and with a pitch definition that beats most 35" scale length basses!!!

Quick update

Interesting comments so far and some great ideas.

Pete - my interpretation of a custom shop is getting something you can't just buy off the shelf - whether that's a quirky variation on a theme or a complete hybrid.

I already said that EBMM guitars are the best I've played...and I've been playing for 30 years now. Even Mr Smith's guitars do not compare to EBMM in my book.

I'm currently saving for a Luke BFR because I know I can't have exactly what I want, despite the amazing number of variations available as off the shelf models (sorry about that phrase as it doesn't do the guitars justice).

As I described earlier, my utopia guitar is a cross between a Luke and an Axis SS. Sorry Pete but I can't have that - only a one off order could realise that dream. But, if I can't have it made by EBMM then I'm looking for the next best thing.

The thing about most guitarists is that todays utopia can be next months sale on ebay as our musical tastes/ears change. Is that when we develop GAS?

Anyway, it's good to have all your comments in the spirit in which they were aimed.

Dream on. My next next dream is a tobacco burst flame top Luke. By 2009 I'll have it too!

Best wishes to everyone

Paul

id have to say mine is a mystic dream style handle for my case =D

kidding ofcourse. I have no clue, to be honest ebmm has come out with all the ones ive hoped for and dont even own yet like a mystic, and tobacco bfr. Blue dawn and redburst were on that list but ive got those. I'd maybe like to see a honeyburst jp bfr kinda like the prototype he use on score. Thought that sucker was amazing. Till then i have plenty of options to consider like Bp said 100,000 combos.......that'll keep me busy with G.A.S for a long time lol

Mystic Dream handle for the case...now that would look cool! I've been hoping for a Caramel Burst/ Honey Burst on the BFR for a while now, so that would be one of my only hopes that wouldn't be a completely custom design that I'd like to try out haha.

But seriously, I would only change little things. Like perhaps a passive piezo system so I wouldn't have to worry about a battery. Not sure how it would sound though. And on a related note, the piezo battery only active when the piezo is switched on so I wouldn't have to unplug the cable when I'm not using my guitar. And perhaps hum-cancelling single coils on the Silo Special so I don't have to worry about a battery for the silent circuit. The silent circuit would probably get rid of noise better anyway though. And along with the Silo Special, maybe a recessed bridge so that you could pull it up, like the JP trem. And then maybe a toggle switch for the piezo. But I suppose you could just have all that done yourself pretty easily.

we offer well over 100,000 combinations now...Search custom shop and you will see this thread often.

Alas, those 100,000 combinations don't exactly have 100% of what I really want...:( Oh well... You can't please 'em all...:p;)

My wish list:
  • Silo Spec Body
  • Alder/Mahogany/maple top combo
  • SSS config with White pearloid pickguard (DiMarzio YJM/HS3/HS3 set)
  • Piezo pickups
  • Solid Colour (like pearl white?):D
  • RW fretboard, heavy birdseye maple neck with natty headstock
  • 22 Jumbo Frets
  • 10" Radius
  • Silhouette neck profile
  • JP6 forearm scoop
  • JP6 floating trem
  • Gold Hardware

It's not that hard to make issit???:D

20th Silo in y2d Purple Sunset, all rosewood neck
JP7 blackburst gold hardware w/ an all ebony neck (that would be the coolest guitar in existance)
Autumn Redrise Stingray w/ clear pickgaurd, best color ever made!
