I vote for Blue.

Purple is my all time favourite colour but paint is fading. The blue quilt trumps the purple flame.

Fing, judging by Your standards every guitar older than a couple of days with You is already getting too old :D

yeah, the for sale thread must be down. We haven't seen his 2hb AL in there yet... It's coming up on 2 weeks!

Blue/Teal

Don't let silly people dissuade you! (J/K my fellow KNuckleheads, <3 you all!)

That quilt top is massively insane.

And for those who are arguing about the "older is better" it only comes to an extent. Get the newer one, you want the guitar to grow old with you, not have someone else grow old with it then pass it on.

Rationally it make little sense to buy a 10+ year old guitar without knowing its history in-depth and explicitly. This is the biggest part for me in buying used. A lot of guitar damage CANNOT be seen. You have NO WAY of knowing the type of environmental stresses it's been living in. No way. There's absolutely NO WAY to know whats happened to it, and no way to know if the owner is being honest, even being honest about being the first owner.

I'm not trying to press my case by being a cynic, but you have the 3 strongest and most important points going for you on the Blue/Teal one:

1. The top is insanely hot.
2. The guitar is young and gives you both a chance to bond.
3. An exceptionally greater chance that the guitar has suffered less stress.

Those are some outstanding points, Scooby Steve! Hmmmm................

Old gutiars are like worn in jeans. perfect.

So what did playing with the light off do for ya?? except play badly?? lol just kidding,

which one sounds better to you?

I agree to one statement that said to play with your eyes closed and see which one sounds better to you and feels better.

I can honestly say that after playing guitar for 25 years even when you have an amazing looking axe it DOESNT MATTER what it looks like. especially when you play it cause ya cant see the damn thing! im serious!

You can take this from a guy that owns a gorgeous Axis. and i mean gorgeous. Even if it was ugly as sin, when it sits in my hands it sings to me.

Tone?, your points are well taken and I agree that sometimes older guitars, like my 1997 PV Archtop Wolfgang, feels like that great pair of old jeans but now I am really starting to think about the obvious mathematical odds that the Purple Axis may have been exposed to greater stresses that might not be so apparent right now but I DO NOT know the history/person who used to own it but it appears to be taken care of quite well. I agree with the sentiment that cosmetics shouldn't be the biggest factor in buying a guitar which is precisely why I am still struggling with this decision. Both sound killer with the lights off:p but where one guitar has a strength, the other one has its own unique strength. I really thought this was going to be an easier decision. Thanks for your input!

Has both criteria for me, quilt and blue/teal. You need one.

If only I could convince my wife that I need BOTH but she is being exceptionally cool about this. She knows that I have been saving for over two years for an Axis and even with that, the budget is only there for a used one.

which one feeds back the best ? (the good kind)
which one sounds smoothest clean at high volumes ?

Those are some good questions that I actually tried to address last night for 4 hours as I kept switching between the two. I can coax some good singing feedback out of the Teal Axis a bit easier but I can get a creamer Claptonesque woman tone out of the neck pu of the Purple one. As for the gig volumes, both guitars sound absolutely killer so that aspect of it is a dead heat.

To make things a little more interesting, I have to make a final decision on the Purple Axis before tomorrow at 5 PM to ensure that there won't be any "technicalities" on returning it. Oh boy............................

many things have been said before. especially about the new/old thing - condition, playing, tone and so on.
take the Teal, because it's top is insane you'll have to watch out for a long time to get your hands on such a nice top again!
take the Teal, because the hardware (floyd) is newer and will last for longer time.
take the Teal, because the top is insane.
take the Teal, because you have to sent it to me (i love it!). ;) :D
and last but not least:
take the Teal, because the top is insane.

enough said for now.
