Hi all,

I was wondering whether EBMM does customized orders for the current JP models they have available?
I want a JP6 with a 17" radius, or a Majesty with unfinished back of the neck and different coloured hardware.

Has anyone ordered a slightly customized EBMM from factory? If so, how much will they charge for this modification?

Not unless you're an artist they endorse, nope. Even then, I think there's limits to how much they'd let you change.

How cool would it be if they did, though, right?

Yeah, I mean it's not a huge modification to ask for different coloured hardware or a different radius neck. They could basically slap another neck from their production models onto the JP6.

I'm actually surprised that EBMM and Petrucci haven't made a Majesty with oil finished back of the neck. Other manufacturers do this with neck through guitars. It would literally be the dream guitar for many people.

I wish there would be something like this in the 2020 JP range.

Oh boy. For one thing, it's a JP model, which means JP gets what JP wants. Neck through guitars with oiled necks have been done for years by Carvin/Kiesel, but it's also a significant increase in cost, because of the labor and masking required.

With a bolt on, the neck and body are separate, so it's pretty easy. When they are all one piece, that's not as easy. Then you'll also get people complaining about where they chose to move from the finished to the oiled part of the neck, or how the transition isn't smooth, etc, which is exactly what people would complain about on Carvins with oiled necks.

Yeah, I totally agree with you. It's interesting that we'd tolerate a "BOLT-ON" neck, but then flip out when there's like 1mm thin paint line where the neck meets the body.

Yeah... some said it wasn't done "artistically" enough, or something like that. No matter where they would do it, it wouldn't make everyone happy.

Now, a 17 inch radius, doesn't the JP15 have that? That might be the only production guitar that does. Also only the silhouette has a 25.5 scale 24 Fret bolt on neck, other than the JP bolt on models. So they really don't have much in the way of options of other necks they could use.

They'll do it. Given your name is John Petrucci =D
