Got a real nice email today thanking me but telling me they hire the guy who already knew all of the songs and that is why they picked him, othewise they thought I did real well and had a great audition.

Win some lose some. Great experience nonetheless.

Sorry to hear that you didn't get the gig. I occaisionally think about the auditions that I didn't pass. After a bit of reflection on the great guys I have played with since, I do not regret a single gig that I didn't get. Hopefully, you will be able to do the same.
