Hi all,

I read at the johnpetrucci.com that all JP guitars at NAMM had a d-sonic bridge pickup installed, and that Dan from EB said it will be stock from now on,

I remember BP's post about not changing anything in John's guitars, so I'm a bit confused over here,

Could someone provide us with official info on this one??

thanks!

Man oh man is this topic popping up everywhere

The almost "diffinitive" answer, per Dan @ EB:
Right now it looks to be that we have enough of the current pickups to fill all the orders placed before the NAMM show, and the D-Sonic style pickups will be issued as standard equipment beginning around the time the first NAMM orders hit stores. This looks like it will happen around April. Dates are estimates.

So - basically if you've already ordered a JP, it should have the current pickups on it. If you order one somtime in the future, it will have the version of the D-Sonic that JP has been playing with. Technically everyone was right. YES the pickups are being changed as of "now" but the change wont hit the streets for about 3 months because of all the current backorders.

I hope that helps:D

Cool. Thanks, Pete. I guess I'll wait then. Not that I have the $,$$$ to buy another guitar right now.

Thanks Pete! yeah but the good thing is that it is a stock d-sonic, so if anybody feel like changing old pup, won't have that much of a problem:)

I really love JP's modern tones, and have a Graph Pearl JP6, wondering whether or not I should go for a D-Sonic.

I have a Dual Recto also, and love his Train of Thought tone (one of the few I guess), and on that he would've used the stock JP pickup. Any ideas why he's changing exactly?

I'm only thinking loud here, but maybe he needed a warmer pickup because of the amps change. He used Marks, triaxis which probably were more mid oriented, and Road Kings have more treble to it, so his steve's special moded pickup sounded too thin after a while?

Perhaps you're right philip. But his tone on Live at Budokan is fantastic IMO. That was steve's special, into Road Kings. When I saw them in October though, he was using the D-Sonic and his tone sounded absolutely HUGE!

They will probably change the spec once the latest Ltd Edition run is over as I guess there may be problems getting the D-Sonic with gold polepieces.

Either way, I still love the sound and feel of the early JP and wouldn't want to change mine for the world (which iw why I'm refusing to go near a Y2D until I can afford one :D )

I'll have to give a big +1 to that. Dude...you're not alone. I want the new Road King Series 2, I think. Same distortion sounds with the Lone Star clean, just like JP's rig.

While we're on the topic of JP's pickups, I remember someone mentioning the pickup that JP's neck pickup most closely resembles. Does anybody have a pointer?

Since I'm SOOO afraid to touch my JP6, I'm thinking I might experiment with the pickups in my newly aquired Sub (Thanks Pete!)...maybe I'll rewire them to split the coils as well.

Thanks,
Mike
