Hi All;

I recently took delivery of my first JP6 (5th EB/MM overall, with the others all being Axis model). Anyway, I was told by CS that this is a 2007, and it was shipped with D-Sonic pickups. I know nothing about D-soncis, or DiMarzio pups for the most part. I know that the JPs now are equipped with different pups. Can anyone tell me the differences between the D-sonic and current pickups (I think they are the Liquidfire and Crunchlab)? Sonic differences, build differences, etc. Have any of you guys replaced your current pickups with the current ones, or ever replaced the current pickups for the old, and if so, what were your results?

Thanks!

What are the markings on your PUs? My 2008 JP6 has these ones:

My Neck PU is identified: BHNP1
The Bridge: BHWP3

Here is the reply I got from Dimarzio:

The neck pickup is very similar to an Air Norton. The bridge pickup has the same performance as a D Sonic (DP207F).

I have several JP's with the original pickups, dsonic, and CB/LF. IMO the DSonic is the weakest of the 3 bridge pups. Especially in the BFR version. It works pretty well in the standard JP. BUT, the CB/LF are the best yet. The neck pickup is way nicer than the old one. It is clearer and smoother and sounds better below the 9th fret where the old one can get a bit muddy. I keep saying I'm going to demo all these pickups so folks can hear the differences. Here's a vid of the JP DD2 I did which has the LF/CB combo:

Lou, that tone was pure "sweetness". Loved it. I must say that the Liquifier in my JP6 makes me reach for the neck pickup more than any other pickup in any other guitar I've ever played. And the Crunchlab always sounds rich and full without ever getting that piercing sharp tone. Again Lou, awesome demo of those tones!!!

When you say it is the weakest are you referring to clarity, output, being less hot? Could you expand? How is the current bridge that much better than the D-Sonic?
