I´m seriously thinkin´about switching from the custom wound to a D Sonic in my 2002 JP6!!!All i want is a more chunky, bad ass Rythm Sound wich has more power without adding gain!!!Definition is the key!!!!

Any opinions and thoughts?????

If thats the type of sound you're going for, I'm pretty sure the D-Sonic would work perfect for you. I love the D-Sonic more than the old stock bridge pickup. Its definitely got definition, thats for sure. What rig are you playing through?

I'm sure with that rig, the D-Sonic will sound great. I'm playing through a Mark IV widebody combo, and the D-Sonic is awesome. Its one of my favorite DiMarzio's, if not my favorite. From what I've heard the DC series are sort of like a Mark series Boogie.

I'm going to swap the SS out in my '06 JP6 for a D-Sonic this week. I think i'll also try a push/pull knob on it while i'm at it...

The D-sonic sounds awesome with all boogie amps IMO...

I played my JP through a Triple Rec with a Maxon OD808 in front of it and was surprised at how good it sounded. That pedal combined with the D-Sonic in the JP totally tightened up the amp and took away all the mud. I definitely agree that the D-Sonic sounds good with most Boogies.

What are the big Tonal differences between the regular pickup that is in the old JP's and the D-sonic? im thinking when my JP arrives to switch the Pup to a d-sonic aswell. is the sound really an improvement or just different?

Some people prefer the old pickup.

I think it's got more bite.. that's the way it sounds to me, anyway. It's the difference between a Barqs and a Mug rootbeer.

I think the difference between the old bridge pickup and the D-Sonic is that the old pickup had more of a scooped mids kinda sound. The D-Sonic has more mids, a little less bass, and little less treble than the old pickup, but at the same time has more clarity to it then the old bridge pickup. By clarity, I mean that you can hear every note in a distorted chord.

If you mean the "bar" in the pickup, yes it does look very "heavy metal". As far as the pickup goes, I think you'll dig it. Most D-Sonic users do. And if you don't, you can always uninstall it and send it back and exchange it for a different pickup since DiMarzio has the exchange policy. When you get it and install it, let us know what you think!

I technically have both and I think I, at the moment, prefer the SS. It's more defined, I think. The D Sonic is just pure metal balls, though, which kicks @55!

The D-Sonic also produces a notably different sound when installed the other way: The bar towards the bridge is favoured for drop tunnings and 7-strings, so I'm guessing it might have even better definition :O . So if you don't like it once it's there, you can always try it the other way around. Or just exchange it with another DiMarzio.

Oops there goes my first post :p . I was saving it for my introduction but I've got no digital camera near to take a pic of my Silo so whatever. Hi guys.

I didn't like it... heh... I swapped it out for a Steve's Special as soon as I could. It was a bit too dark, and I don't have a very bright amp to play through, so dark + dark = crap...:D Even now with the Steve's Special, while it does sound good, it's still lacking a bit of treble...

But technically, the original pup on the JP6 isn't a Steve's Special ya?
