Argh, I have been musicman-less for too long!

Of all the MM basses I have owned, I think the Sterling was my favorite. I've been playing a plastic necked bass (I won't mention the manufacturer lol) for a couple years now. I like it, but in essence it is just a stingray copy.

There is a real "family" kind of feel to the musicman brotherhood, and the participation on the e-boards from the top on down from the company, is spectacular. Over the last couple of years, I've seen EB make tremendous efforts to make their products 100%, whether it was new, used, 4th owner, or what have you.....they want their owners happy, and their products at 100%. The martini green flame bongo is amazing, and an unbelievable gesture of kindness, and gratitude for it's supporters that I have never seen from any other manufacturer, of ANY product. All this, and I am still unable to buy a needed electronics cover, or a copy of the original build sheet after 2 years of trying from the plastic neckers.

PS, if you look back to most of the old bongo bashing posts, I was shortly behind the fearless bongo leader, usually delivering a blow or two while they were down from Jack's verbal ass-ripping :D

I have a custom I am putting together at the moment, and as soon as that is done, Jack......expect a call from me to discuss what I need to buy to be back in the fold!

You guys are great, and I look forward to putting my mits back on a REAL Music Man!

The main problem I have with getting a nice, new bass to use is.......I use a roland synth, and the pickup system has to be bolted to the bass. I have to use the same bass pretty much all night, as I use the synth pretty frequently. I REALLY don't want to drill holes in a nice shiny new bass, but damn I'd like a nice MM.

What to do?

Welcome Tim! You're absolutely right...this is the only board I can really get into (no offense to those who run others).

And, I don't recall the kind of relationship that BP and the rest of the EBMM staff (that post here) have with their customers from any other company.

I mean, what other company would open its doors to its customers...let alone in the fashion that Big Poppa did? Nada, zip, nil...squat!

You're also right that Ernie Ball/MusicMan will go to great lengths to make sure that not only owners of their current instruments are happy, but also those of us who own (or have owned) pre-EB axes...beyond the call of duty!

BTW, I'm not only a former Bongo basher...I'm now an addict! :D

What to do?

Well, whatever you end up doing, I'm glad to see you here. Now if we can only bring Patsy back, too, eh?

There is a real "family" kind of feel to the musicman brotherhood, and the participation on the e-boards from the top on down from the company, is spectacular.

This is the thing that made the Open House so spectacular. Between all of us, really, and then again between us and BP and all the people at EBMM, there is an unmistakable family feeling. Yes, Sterling treated us like old friends, but it wasn't just him - it was everyone. And we, the Forumites all felt like old friends, too.

The Pit has its own brotherhood, of which I'm proud to be a long-standing member, and we have it here, too.

Anyway, if I can help you in any way, you know I'll do my best. I'm just glad to see you over here.

Get a used beater off eBay, or better yet if the synth is a big part of your sound just make peace with it and get what ever new EBMM you want and bolt that pickup on and make it YOUR EBMM! :D

I'm thinking of a synth pickup myself, I've got a quarter mil of synths laying around here in the studio, what the hell, synths are my bag anyway...

Jack said it best, but I'll add this is a great company from top to bottom, I'll never be without an EBMM bass, this is family! (Of course I'm just some sort of bastard stepchild, but BP loves us all.... well he puts up with me, but loves the rest of you.)

Thom (Tommyindelaware) used a synth for quite a while and had it 'attached' to his EBMM SM model so he might be able to tip you off about what to expect. Not to mention how he was feeling just before he carved the neck to fit his hand... trepidation comes to mind. :)

Welcome Tim!

The whole "EBMM family" thing is huge for me. There's a great sense of satisfaction in playing an instrument that comes from a company that stands behind there product AND complete stands along-side their customers. And the open house experience just completely cemented this concept for me.

My three F*nder-playing guitarist still eye me with a sense of jealousy and envy as they look down at their guitars and wonder who cares about them... ;)

So like Chuck said - if the Synth is you, don't sweat it. :)

Chuck - time to update your sig - Ain't there a Lefty Sterling you need to be advertising!?

I'm waiting till I have it in hand, but you know I'll be a proud owner! I am excited, and remember there is still a ButterCream Bongo on the way. Sometimes I have to pinch myself! :D :D :D
