I should know this, but do some of the DD2 JP6s have the mahogany tone block/alder body and mahogany neck? I've seen some with unfinished necks (maple) and others with finished (DD2 green) necks.

How about the DD2 Lukes?

Thanks in advance!

The BFR JP DD2's have the tone block/maple top/alder body/mahogany neck.

the DD2 package was a cosmetic package that was applicable to most MM models
if the non DD2 version of the guitar has a tone block etc then so would the DD2 version.

So a DD2 BFR Luke or JP would have the tone block etc whereas a DD2 "normal" (non BFR) Luke or JP would not

Thanks ProtoChicken and phatduckk. How does one recognize the BFR ones?

Is it from the different forearm contour? And the finished neck?

I don't recall seeing the "BFR" 12th fret inlay, although I may very well be mistaken.

There is no BFR inlay on the BFR DD2's. As phattduckk said the guitars themselves are the same so the JP BFR has a painted neck, and as you mentioned does not have the forearm scoop that the standard JP, along with the slightly different horns. I don't know anything about the Luke's or how you would differentiate between a BFR and non BFR version of a Luke DD2.

The BFR should come with a Certificate of Authenticity. Otherwise, I don't think there's any easy way to tell the difference just by looking at the Luke models...since they'd look exactly the same. The only real difference would be the tone block and maple top...which you can't see.

some guitars would be easily to visually distinguish than others.
The JP BFR's have a sharper horn etc - so to the trained eye (aka a forum addict) you can see the difference. the other obvious difference would be the pricetag. LOL. if the guitar is easily over $2,000 USD then odds are high that its a BFR unless the dealer doesn't believe in competitive pricing. LOL

But ya, they also come with a certificate as well.

Personally I wouldn't be able to sell if a DD2 Luke was a BFR or not soley on looks alone. that's something id need to see a cert for

I'd say it doesn't take a trained eye to distinguish the DDII JP from the DDII BFR JP...foreram contour, finished/unfinished neck...it shouldn't be hard to tell.

With the Luke I'd say it's almost impossible, same would apply to the AL if they would have made a DDII BFR version of it.
