I have a Trans Gold Axis G07194 and Trans Black Axis G01100 and wanted to get info as to their date of manufacture. Also, the Trans Black Axis I have is actualy very dark brownish/grey, almost coffee (black no cream) in color at certain angles. I wondered if they varied a bit because of the few pictures I've seen they've appeared much more silver/grey than mine. I realise this can be from the lighting of the pictures too but I wondered if this might be why the Trans Black are so rarely seen.
Thanks,

Axis Trans Gold BOD 6/99

Axis Trans Black BOD 4/98

This period of time is when we switched over to
painting the Tops instead of hand staining them. The Trans- Black finish did not fair well to the new painting process and was discontinued. With the hand stained versions you could see the Maple Top
but over time some of the trans black tops would fade into a greenish -brown hue.

Thanks

Thanks for the info Derek. I really love these guitars. In fact I've dumped every other guitar I had once I got one... of course then I needed two!!!! I might refinish the Black one as it's quilt top is quite hidden beneath the Black.
