Hi

I have a mid 80's stingray that I bought new back then. The funny thing is I don't remember when (memory going, getting old I guess) :)

The serial number is B023171

I think it's 85 or 86 but not sure of the month. the beauty of this bass is that I got Tony Levin to sign the back of the headstock.

Cheers,

Paul

Dating your bass, normally that would seem like a pretty lonely love life, but we understand that here. But, have you tried any of the dating services, a man might get lucky. ;)

Hey, just messing wit ya! Welcome to the forum and make yourself at home.

There is a sticky at the top, the “Serial Number Database”, post up there and you’ll find what you seek.

Glad you found us, and again welcome aboard. :D

Hi. I second Chuck's welcome :D

Check where the string retainer is located...D&G for a Pre-EB Bass and A&D for an Ernie Ball. I say that because the B023xxx serials were used on both Basses.

No records exist for the Pre-EBs and the Ernie Ball data base doesn't go back that far.

Going by serial comparisons, it will be either a circa 1983 Pre-EB or a circa 1986 Ernie Ball. Dates are located on the neck heel and in the body pocket but the neck has to be removed to view them. If you decide to do that then I recommend you consider having it done by a luthier.

Any pics of your Bass? If so, there's a "Picture Gallery" thread at the top of this Forum page.
