Dealing with the switch from Les Paul to Music Man JP6

Hi,

i just received a very nice birthday present. It's a barely used EBMM JP6 . I always played Les Pauls and i have quite some trouble playing "good" on the JP. Im used to the bridge on a les paul, which is totally different to the one on the JP.
I know it will take some time, but i'm a little affraid that i will never get used to it . What do you think? I don't want so sell this beauty ... Thanks in advance.

I'd say give yourself atleast a year. I own 4 very different solidbody guitars. You're making a pretty good jump in feel. How long have you had the JP6?

I'm playing the guitar for about 4-5 years right now, so it's not that long. Do you still think it could take that long to get comfortable?

You will adjust. I owned both guitars at the same time for several years and could easily go back and forth in the end, and I had the 50's neck on my Lester! You might just fall hook, line, and sinker for the JP6 and ditch the Les Paul! LOL! These EBMM guitars are addictive, I bought 4 in a very short period of time and love them all. I replaced my Les Paul with the AL HH. Hang in there, you will adjust. Both are awesome guitars.

I went from playing my Les Paul for 30 years (from 73 to 05)to playing an AL. In 2009 I got a JP6 and find the transitionno problem at all

You CAN adapt. Some people (looks at Blackdog) really, really, really like a particular guitar, neck, feel, everything and don't want other types. Other people (me) have 8 guitars and they're LP scale, EBMM scale, lacquered neck, hollow body, heavy, light...sort of everything. If you want to get used to it, do it. They are very different guitars.

I play Les Paul and ES-175 for over 15 years and then recently I went to JP6. I will tell you this: a JP6 is way easier to play than a Les Paul, technical stuff takes a lot less work to get accuracy and clean. There are certain things that a Les Paul will do that no other guitars can, like getting that real rockin' blues mojo with the big fat neck, or getting that huge tone. BUT a JP6 is my main guitar now because it's very versatile. I've been using it on rock gigs, jazz gigs and it held up on all occasions.

i love how the switch on the ebmm JP is EASILY accesible, u can do really fast runs and switch without putting in effort.. i particularly love this fact, even back in the ibanez days, i had 2 ibanez JPMs and alower end 620.. because all of them had the same 3 way dimarzio switch. Now with the release of EBMM John Petrucci, it just couldnt get any better. EBMMs are the best guitars i ever owned.

You can adjust to pretty much anything. Just take some time and get used to it.

Embrace the differences between guitars. It makes you a better player.

I have found my EBMM's to be the easiest playing guitars for me. Just give it time to adjust. I have a bunch of different types of guitars and like to switch up.

I gig regularly with EBMM's and other guitars in the same show. Did it last night. Embrace each guitar for what the designers and company intended and above all - HAVE FUN!

I still play the dreaded Lester once a week, and I play it just fine, but I love my balls much more.
