Hey Raz, yep Steve is a longtime member of the band and he gets his own solo spot - in the words of Ian Gillan "He's the best!"

I'm serious...I'm not familiar with Mr. Morse or DP enough to know these things...but if he's going, then I'm there...I can't imagine what Steve will do with Highway Star

Hey Raz,

Deep Purple definitely is a must see. After Blackmore left midway 1993, they finished the rest of 'The battle rages on' tour with Joe Satriani on guitar. Joe just stept in and did the job. Because of restrictions on behalf of record companies and so on, they had to find a replacement for Ritchie since things were not going to work out with Joe. That's where Steve comes into the picture. Since midway 1994, beginning of 1995, Steve is the guitarist in DP. A asure you, I've seen, heard and talked to the guys in DP several times by now, and they are simply amazing. Some people consider this blasphemy, but I like the DP with Morse better than with Blackmore, although their material has written 'superb' all over it with Blackmore as well as with Steve Morse.

Go there if you can, you will not regret it. They kick some major *** and they are probably one of the best live bands I've ever heard (and I've seen a lot by now).

Enjoy I'd say,

cheers, Tom.

Raz, I second Tom, DP with Morse is hands down the best show I have ever seen, I saw them at Massey Hall just before they became touring monsters, the Hall only fits 3000 people, it was so good I caught them 5 months later , unfortunately at Molson Ampitheathre , this time the packed in 20,000.

Yep they have released a bunch of material with Steve , and play it in concert, as well as the classics. I really like Bananas, Steve has some solo stuff he has just recorded with DP like Contact Lost and Well Dressed Guitar - he mostly sticks to those in DP concerts.

Yep,

they have released three studio albums with Steve (Purpendicular, Abandon and Bananas) and a few live albums (Live at the Olympia '96, Total Abandon, ...). They also have the soundboard series with 6 double CD's with live shows with Steve from 2000-2001 and the Concerto for group and orchestra by Jon Lord which they redid 30 years after they first recorded it with Blackmore. Steve wrote Well dressed guitar for those concerts and that's definitely a nice piece of guitar playing.

If you want to pick up the thread with DP material with Steve, I'd suggest you start with Purpendicular. That's a brilliant album IMO and is definitely largely underrated by radiostations worldwide.

The live shows mostly are a mix of a lot of old classics (Smoke on the water, Highway Star, Woman from Tokyo, ...) and some newer material. For the shows this summer in the States, the newer material will probably be taken from the Bananas album and if you're lucky, they might play some not yet recorded tunes since there are plans to record another album in the course of this year or early next year.

I just don't understand how Steve does all this and how they find time to pull these things together? He's now touring with SMB/Dregs, then the Purple dates in July and there is a major European tour coming up for October/November with Living Loud. He furthermore has to schedule some more time to finalize the new Y2d model. BTW, if you like good rocking music, order the Living Loud CD (it got stuck in my CD player, man, great album).

Et voila, at your service,

greetings, Tom.

several DVD's exist with Steve and DP.

That should get you started if you don't mind dropping the coin.

But personally, I'd rather see a 1/2 hour dregs show than a 3 hour purple show.

Smaller venue, I prefer the material since it's 100% steve's, and no singing.

Unfortunately, I may never have that chance, way up here in the North...so I's takes what I's can get :D Oh and it appears as though the venue, although being a huge arena, has been modified to sit alot less than most other shows there...should be cool...I need to buy an Ernie Ball Tee shirt just for the show...any thoughts

Actually I am impressed as to how good I have been. I'll search Ebay once in awhile, but my plan is to pay off all of my existing purchases, then I'll go from there. I'm considering purchasing a Morse, I think the fat neck is just what I need. Theres a local music store that offers great trade in value for new product...hmmm maybe I'll go have a look :D
