Hey everyone,
I have been lurking for a couple of years now and have been a MusicMan owner for about 10 years now. At one point I had (2) of them which were my main and backup axes but for the last couple of years they have gone untouched. In fact I sold my older one a year ago so I am just down to one. It's not that they are bad axes, just I have switched to playing 5 string fretless due to the musical genres (jazz/progressive)I have been listening and playing.

One of the reasons I have held on to my current EB is that I have this notion that it might be collectible someday.

I suppose I should fill in the details......

It is a 2000 model EB MM Stingray with the black "Sparkle" or Metal Flake with a matching headstock. It has the 3 band EQ and flamed maple neck, no rosewood fingerboard. I believe it was part of a limited run that EB had around that time. I bought it new btw.

So I guess my question is, am I holding onto something special here or is this no more unique than a standard EB that can be found in any GC or any other big box store across the Country? I have done numerous internet searches on this particular combination and have come up with zilch as far as value, collectiblility status or desirability. My conclusion so far completely the opposite, nobody likes these things :D

I do plan on keeping it, as I'm sure it will be of use to me in the future if my tastes change. It is a fantastic tool for the studio and it sounds fantastic through my SWR rig. I have always found EB's to be outstanding quality instruments and I am lucky to be an owner of such a fine example.

Anyways, I would greatly appreciate any feedback. Thank you very much for reading. :)

yeah i'd say it's fairly collectable, black sparkle is pretty damn rare and so is anything with flamed maple, don't know if it would fetch you significantly more than a 'regular' ray though right now at least.

Sounds like a nice guitar an worth hanging onto.
Im not 100% sure but think that sombody put a pic up recently of a black sparkle finished ray, but that definatly have a desirability factor, flamed maple bonus.

Black sparkle is rare because that finish was discontinued, due to the fact that it didn't sell. That said, because they're aren't many of them floating around, there might be someone on the planet who does like that finish and will be willing to pay a bit more than the market price on a standard colour.

They don't sell. Believe me. And if you don't, then believe Sterling Ball at least.

hey, moontide

it's worth as much as any other stingray. i say you sell it and get a sr5 instead. that way, you hold on to a musicman bass, and you have a 5 stringer.

Good suggestion but the necks are like baseball bats on those things.

Might be time to let her go so that she can get some more use than I've been giving her :(
