Did anyone see the Bongo at Live 8?

Watched a good deal of the Live 8 coverage yesterday. Lots of good acts--Pink Floyd was the highlight for me, followed by Sting's re-wording of "Every Breath You Take."

One act that I enjoyed more than I thought I would was Mariah Carey's couple of songs. I'm glad I was paying attention to the TV at the time--otherwise, I might have missed Randy Jackson's head-bobblin'-along-Bongo-playin'-badass-self.

Looked to be a HH 5 string in Sapphire Black with a black ice, or black pearl, pickguard. Sounded great. Looked great on stage.

A great concernt for a great cause with insipid MTV hosts. Every time one of them "got serious," all I could think about was Winona Ryder in South Parktalking about war:"Wow. Ya know? Wow. Really, wow." Although, to ask people who normally introduce the latest Brittney Spears video to emote for 4-5 hours is asking a lot.

He is a Mike Lull guy as of late. I love the fact he's playing a bongo now. But...

Watching Pink Floyd play gave me chills down my spine. They sounded great on most of the songs and my hope is that this will get them back together for good. I doubt it will happen but who knows. They all looked like they were having a pretty good time.

I saw Randy rockin the Bongo. Hes such a tastefull player.

I also spotted some EBMMs on stage with Linkin Park. Not my fav, but props to the Autumn Redburst StingRay and Graphite Pearl StingRay 5 the bass player was playing.

I did see the Bongo, but didn't realize it was Randy Jackson playing it. He sounded good though. Certainly made me pay more attention to Mariah than I would have otherwise. I agree that Pink Floyd was the highlight, and watching at my computer I got to play along with "Money." That was fun.

The MTV/VH1 coverage was horrendous. My wife has family in Barrie, Ontario, where the Toronto concert was held, and they said their TV coverage was commercial free and generally excellent. They just switched from site to site based on who was playing at the time, without the insipid talking heads who obviously thought the audience was there to see and hear them.

I really wanted to see how Roger Waters and David Gilmour interacted when they were done playing. Waters looked like he was having a blast, though.

Watched most of the concert... pretty much all of the UK show and a good few hours of the US show. Enjoyed most of it.

The BBC's coverage was, for the most part, really good.

i gave randy jackson his first endorsement for strings in the early eighties when he was a young bassist on his way up from baton rouge. Along the way we made quite a few cutom Stingrays while he was in Journey. There was a candy pink/white polka dot that was pretty funny I think we also made him one covered in pennies.

randy took a lucrative deal with Peavey and we lost touch and now hes famous. When the Bongo came out I know he bought one for his son and liked it so much he wentt back and bought one for himself. I still haven't heard from Randy, but the grapevine says that he thinks the Bongo is the best bass currently on the market....just the grapevine. ( but he could have played any bass he wanted for a worldwide gig!

...was a little disappointed that our Canadian contingent didn't play their passive Bongo though..... oh well, he's been using the bass that was televised for eons now so I guess that's sort of understandable

Exactly! It's one thing to hear the praise of the bongo but to see a famous guy playing a bongo by choice(over hundreds of other basses) and not simply because he's endorsed speaks volumes. The world wide bongo takeover continues!!

Missed most of the concerts as we were playing a wedding on Saturday evening.

I reminded the guests that they should be very grateful we were there with them and that Bob Geldof will not talk to me ever again, because we turned him down as we already had committed to the wedding!

I told him he should not leave it until the last minute to try and book his end of show cleaning staff!

I actually just saw a video of one of those Journey concerts in the 80s where Randy was playing that StingRay. I just loved it!!! He had a lot more hair then, too, but I really didn't think those parachute pants were right for him...

I watched Live 8 for about 7 minutes, and it was just Mariah Carey, so I told my mother: "wow, look it it, they're soo cool" (talking about Bongo's of course).

I won tickets for the London gig, but my gig at a musical soon put paid to that. The musical itself meant I missed most of the coverage of the UK show, and the aftershow party meant I missed the coverage of the US show, and all the Bongo related shenanigens. Still, I expect they'll release a DVD.

The bass player in Annie Lennox's band had a white SR5 with matching headstock and white pearloid pickguard which looked pretty sweet. Not that I typically notice such details
