To each his own. For me, the Bongo look doesn't seem that radical, compared to designs other manufacturers and luthiers offer. For others the look just grew on them.
I wasn't trying to make folks mad at me or to make enemies, it's just an opinion. I love my sr5's and couldn't do without them. I just think it looks kinda like the Ibanez guitars. By the way I own an Ibanez sg6 that i love the way it plays and i record with it a lot, but the bongo is just a little too radical for my taste i guess.
The Bongo aesthetic is no different than any other instrument, or any other product for that matter. You either like the way it looks, or you don't. I happen to love the way it looks. Just like I love the way it sounds.
But, I've grown tired of trying to remind people that music is an aural experience. If you discount the instrument based on looks alone, then you are missing out.
Every indication I've seen is that the Bongo is an unqualified success, and I expect many years of future Bongo construction. So, I'm not worried about EB stopping making them.
If you want to find out why people like them, do a search. There's plenty of info here.
Trick Pony was at the club New Years Eve and I played Ira Dean's two bongos during sound check..... They sound incredible and play great, I just think that its a little out there
It is of course okay to not be crazy about every bass ever built.
But the Ernie Ball forum, sponsored by the good people at Ernie Ball, is probably not the best place to talk about how ugly you think one of their products is.
I'll leave this up for a little while, but this has been done to death. Thread closed, soon to be deleted, the horse is dead, stop beating it.
