Well now that BP is a regular poser here...ooops I meant poster :D , can we find out what SUB stands for? I believe we were discussing this a while back, and perhaps it has already been answered.
Also, why does the SUB say Music Man on the headstock and not Ernie Ball?
Thanks!

From what I understand, the Bass Guitar was made first.

Instead of S.U.V. - for Sport Utility Vehicle it is:

S - Sport
U - Utility
B - Bass

Also why the textured paint finish therefore making it rugged!!!

Ya mean S.U.B doesn't stand for Sterling Urlinda Ball? ;)

since we're asking questions about the SUB, I've been wondering about the routing for the pickups, are the pickups individually routed, or is there a universal route?

Yes, the SUB Bass was the first to appear and was dubbed the Sport Utility Bass. BP actually announced that the bass was going to be called the "SUB" and let everyone at EB/MM stew and struggle trying to figure out what it meant until it was released at NAMM.

Next came the SUB5, which still made sense. But when the SUB1 Guitar was born SUB took on a new meaning and the word BASS was added to the SUB and SUB5 headstocks.

As for the SUB1 pickguard, there are two humbucker shaped routs underneath every pickguard, even if you have a single H model. You'd have to do a little more routing if you wanted to turn your guitar into an SSS.
