If it anything like a Wolfgang, the Axis neck is narrower and a bit more clubby. I think if you are used to a Jem, you might be better off looking at the JP guitars. They have more of a 'shredder' profile, for want of a better term!

You are going to want to play an axis as the shape will only match an Ernie Ball Musicman EVH or Axis Sport or Axis Supersport. You can't really find anything else that's exactly the same.

On the PV side of things a Wolfgang would be closer to an Axis than an HP or LTD would. But the radius is different and I found that the frets played far differently (I sold a Wolfgang recently). If you've played a Wolfgang and liked it better than the HP, then you're heading in the right direction as they are assymetrical like the Axis. But I'll emphasize that you're heading there, but not there. You need to play an Axis. I've owned both brands and have shed the PV, now playing an Axis and a supersport with MM90's.

I don't know jems myself....but isn't that a very thin necked shreader? If it is, you may want to try a John Petrucci instead.

IMHO, the Axis is the better of the two. The neck is a 10" radius as opposed to a 15" on the HP Special. The Axis trem is a dive-only and the HP is a full float. The HP does have a coil tap feature that the Axis doesn't.

I was a Wolfgang player, until I bought an Axis.

ok lads thanks for the input.the reason behind wanting a axis is watching that kentcarlevi dude on youtube his guitar sounds mint.my jem is a 777 and pretty sure it has a wizard neck, nice n thin.ive had the newest jem 7vwh but the neck was very broad and gave my wrist cramp, shame as it was a tone monster.

The 777 has a really thin neck. You're not going to find ANYTHING that thin here, but you'll get close with a JP or Silhouette.

Being a former Ibby player, the JP was the most comfortable MM guitar to get into.

I have to disagree on that one. My 1987 777 neck is definitely NOT thin. Does your Jem have a neck different than what they usually come with? Jems generally have fairly thick necks, which made the transition to Axis pretty easy. The wizards were used on the RG's and other guitar, at least back when I was playing them.

I think I may have my info mixed up on JEMs then. I looked it up. I must have been thinking about the JEM 77 and not the JEM 777. The ones I have experience with definitely are NOT from 1987.

Granted, they may have changed the neck designs over the years. I just know my old green jem is similar to the axis in terms of comfort. Much closer to an Axis than a JP. Jumbo frets though.

If the JEM has a very thin neck profile, try out the JP instead. I made a similar transition.

I have both, The Axis neck is very small width wise, so if you have chunky fingers or a massive hand you will not like it, the Peavey HP is a little bit wider
Both are great but the Peaveys are a better bang for your buck in my opinion.

I would also say the Axis sounds like the pick ups have a higher output even though the Peavey HP pick ups seem to be easier to get harmonics out of.

At the end of the day its personal preference when it comes to necks and pick ups.
