I have a 1993 Stingray and recently got a 30th Anniversary. As expected, the two basses sound very different; 15 year old poplar vs 2 year old mahogany. Also, the strings are very different; 5 year old TI flats vs new EB's.

But, to my ears, the difference sounds more like a difference in electronics than what I mentioned above.

What would be the differences between a '93 Stingray's pickup and pre amp and a 30th Anniversary?

Thanks,
Leon

as long as your '93 stingray is a 3EQ, then there is nothing different...

different strings and different woods all have different frequency responces and that may affect what you are hearing...

Both the 2 Band and 3 Band EQ pre-amp Basses use the same pickups (including the 30th Anni). However, there is a noticable difference between the two types of pre-amps. The strings and body woods also make a noticable difference between each Bass.

Both basses have the 3 Band EQ. So would the preamps be the same between the '93 and 30th Anni?

And yes, most early '90s were ash but mine is a Blueburst which is poplar.
