What are the primary differences between a Stingray and a Sterling?

What are the primary differences between a 5-string Sterling and an SR5?

Somebody posted a photo of a beautiful limitted edition, HH 5-string Sterling from NAMM, either while it was still going on or shortly after the show closed. He was holding the bass out so the entire bass could be seen. I can't seem to locate the photo. (I want to show the bass to my wife ;)). Can someone help me locate the photo?

Thanks,

Sterlings have smaller bodies, a selection switch (not entirely sure what it does), and they have thinner necks... that's about it, and same goes for the 5 strings

I think this may be the one you meant:

That's the photo I was looking for! That's got to be one of the nicest looking bases I've seen! That and the LE go with the same finish.

You said that Sterlings have smaller bodies. I wonder if that makes them have less sustain or a thinner sound than Stingrays.

It's funny that I never noticed that Stingrays don't have a pickup switch. I suppose the Sterling pickup switch serves the same function as the switch on my SR5.

Do the 5-string Sterlings also have a thinner neck than the 5-string Stingrays?

Thanks for your help.

I know that looks really nice, wish i could afford one!

Nobody on the forum has said anything about less sustain/weaker/thinner sound so most likely not... It is a musicman after all, best company ever!

Also yeah you're right, funnily enough i was just looking at that before i read that post, yeah the SR5 and sterling has a coil tap function and the SR4 doesn't.... strange the SR5 does actually

And i wouldn't be able to tell you, i've never played an SR5 or a sterling as musicman basses are very uncommon around here, and i don't think many people on here could tell you what the sterling 5 neck is like unless they tried one at NAMM.... anyone?
