Im pretty happy with my SBMM Ray34 other than the neck.
It plays well but its not too comfortable. I find im strugling with the neck spacing a bit.
I would be happy to keep with it but i keep thinking what if i got a SR4.
I know the string spacing is more or less the same but figures dont always tell how it will feel.
Can someone try and explain the difference in feel between the two. Im talking about a bog standard single SR4, maybe a few years old. Ive seen a few second hand ones that look good but i dont know if its worth the money over what ive already spent on the Ray34.

Thanks.

The only way you will know is to go to a local store and try some out.

You say "string spacing" but you didn't say what about it bothered you. Is it too wide or too narrow?
If it's too wide, then go try a Sterling bass instead.

Yes, its a bit wider than im used to, especially at the nut. I was thinking Sterling or SLO but i think they might be a bit too narrow.
I have a Duck Dunn and that has a Jazz neck and i thought that was perfect but i actually play a bit better on the Ray34, its harder but i feel its a bit less cluttered.
Trying one out is a bit difficult, hence me asking here.

Cheers.

I think the Ray34s are pretty close to their American made Stingray counterparts. The Sterling (model) will definitely be more Jazz-like in width and feel.

Thanks. I really dont want to go as narrow as a Sterling now. I like the wider (than Jazz) neck but just wondering if im better off with the Ray34 or that there will be a difference.
The Specs say there is about a 2mm difference in nut width but i dont expect that will make any difference.

Each one will feel a little different anyway, so your best bet would be to try a few out if you can. You can drive yourself nuts looking at specs all day, but until you actually get in your hands, you won't know for sure.

Yeah, your right. But getting to try some out is a big problem.
I might just have to take a chance or stick with what i have.
