Hello!
Have anyone tested Axis with different pickups? Oiginal ones are just great, but i´m gonna make little test: I ordered cream/black zebra BKP Warpig into bridge, and original bridge pickup from Axis will be neck pickup. Then there´s 17KOhm in Neck, 22KOhm in Bridge.

Yeah, many times!! The Axis is THE guitar to match with any pickup - can't ever lose!! My favorite is the DiMarzio Norton (not air) in the bridge.

Indeed ... it's near impossible to find the stock ones, so don't sell them!

Lots of guys here have tried other p'ups ... good luck with the search ... let us know how you make out.

I suspect Bill Lawrence has forgotten more about pickups than just about anyone else has learned. I can certainly say I've learned a ton from my conversations with him.

Just save the stock ones...find your tone!

Definitely will do .... both my EBMM guitars have managed to stay stock-standard for the past 5 years (aside from regular string changes) .... and I really, really, really, really like 'em ..... but there is still a lil' bit of curiousity goin' on for me.

cheers always, eh

Just make sure that they fit in , and that they are at the correct height !! The Axis p ups are screwed into the body , so no p up surrounds for height adjustment .

I really do not lose original ones - just try some new stuff.
Warpig has tremendous, raw kick, but also Nailbomb is exellent.

It is very hard to find original Bill Lawrence pickups - not those USA labeled ones. Sometimes it will take couple months, until Becky answers via email... :(
Anyway BL`s are great pickups & BKP too.

I have never liked - IMHO - Duncan´s, because sound of them is littlebit... floppy? It is not tight enough for me. But SD 59` is great neck pickup!

Remember that Bill and Becky are pretty much a mom and pop operation.
If you order from their website, you will get your items in a few weeks.
Their daughter Shannon handles most of the orders from what I can tell.
Bill has revamped the L-90 (the late Ken Fisher's favorite pup) in the past year. I have one in the neck of a off brand Saraceno signature model. Sounds great. Big and clear hi-fi tones.
It would be good to tell us what sound (with what amp) you are looking for.
Most of the knuckleheads here seem to be metal types....

I have a Tone Zone and Air Norton in mine (the stock pickups came all black and I wanted the Zebra look). Sounds great.

If you remove the spacer on the screws side of your Tone Zone and push the magnet up against the screws, the Tone Zone will sound just like the Axis original pickup. Did that on the Tone Zone in my Charvel So Cal, now my Axis SS and So Cal sound EXACTLY the same (on the bridge pickup). I think it's called the "half-air mod" for the TZ. Incredible similarity, dirty and clean.

IMHO:
Humbucker from hell has hellish treble, i really like Tone Zone´s bee-like round, kicky sound. EQ is like B8 M8 T5, and this is very good for me. TZ could be littlebit hotter, thou. It has about 17.4KOhms, it could be 19-21.

BKP Nailbomb is another exellent pickup, very musical, tasty, a bit straight EQ-level, but nice sounding, overall. Warpig has that tremendous raw power, 22KOhms.

Does anyone know anything about this EVH-signature pickup? Everyone is saying that this is very good:
