Well guys im confused. Im wondering whether to cancel my ordered bongo five and get a cheaper bass (either stingray or fender jazz ) and use the money to buy some new equipment that I think I would pretty much need in the future(no details).

I think I already know they answer coming from you guys :p

Try to look at it like this: from your fingers to the speakers there is a chain of equipment, starting with the bass (well, ok, the strings, but you get the picture). Build from the start, add other gear as needed, or if still needed. ;)

pretty simple, you'll never regret having a Bongo, but I'm willing to bet you'll regret not having one and then you have to start over. Good luck.

Why would anyone need anything new when they didn't already have a Bongo? Bongo first, my friend. There are those here (and they know who they are) who would also add Bongo second, third and fourth.

Enjoy your new Bongo, friend...then build out from there as you see fit - you won't regret it!

Equipment comes, equipment goes...

... the Bongo is forever.

Look, the Mind Control Rays have already done their work. If you don't get the Bongo, it will haunt you. You will lose your appetite. You will be unable to sleep. Your hair will start to fall out. You will become a tortured soul, a mere shadow of your former self.

Don't let this happen to you!

If you cancel the Bongo and get a... I don't know, say a Walmart no-name "starter pack". It's true that you'll save some money.

But when you realize what you lost, depression will kick in. You'll begin to realize that you could use some of that "saved" money to buy some medications to ease the pain. As you lose grip with reality you will use more and more of your "saved" money on the products designed to push back the ever increasing wall of pain. Eventually the money will run out and as you lay shivering and alone with your Walmart special having been burnt for firewood, you will imagine your alternate future, playing your bongo in front of tens of thousands of adoring fans.

Seriously get the darn Bongo.

First, you should figure out what your "needs" are, or will be. If you need a professional grade bass guitar, you can't go wrong with the Bongo. If your needs don't require a pro grade instrument like the Bongo, or any US built MM, there are other great bang for buck choices. That said, none will give you exactly what the Bongo will. So, you should clarify what your needs and/or goals are.
The cost difference between the other bang for buck options and something like the Bongo might be several hundred dollars. Honestly, that's a couple months worth of weekend gigs...well worth exercising a bit of patience for.
