Well.
All I can say is, this pedal nails some pretty exclusive tones. I mean friggin' NAILS them. Well not all of them, but the ones that count.
The pedal is setup to go into a full range (console/powered monitor) setup or an amp or both. In mono or stereo. I MUCH prefered the full range setup. guitar needs to go into RSpedal first as there is a real ANALOG treble booster in there that loads the pickups and the guitar volume control really does work with it. Has a footswitch out so you don't have to bend over and turn the knob. Each setting is setup so that 2 distinct tones can be selected for each "preset". Toe or heel on/off. Entire unit can be bypassed also. I used it into clean amp and dirty amps. Valvetech/Fender/Vox/AC30. They all have compromised. Best tone comes direct to powered speakers. I have it setup for line in into my GNX4, which puts it into stereo EV powered wedges. Very convincing! I have the real rangemaster/AC30 sitting right next to it to a/b. I can get all the tones and more with the pedal without ripping my head off with ear splitting volume. If you want the Brian May tone, I would DEFINITELY go this route and NOT the little amp.
Models:
1.Keep Yourself Alive- the main intro and solo tones with an EXCELLENT jet style phaser (phaser controled by pedal) *****
2.Bohemian Rhapsody- first solo tones and final rhythm tones, pedal morphs tone from rhythm to "deacy" style lead at the end *****
3.Tie Your Mother down- Brians main rhythm tone. sounds perfect with guitar vol on 7 crank it up and kick in lead tone *****
4.WWRY/We R the champions- signature tones for both. Again...nailed *****
5.Crazy Lil Thing- Avoid this model. ick. bad acoustic sim and lead trys to tele your tone.
6.Brighton Rock- The whole 3 amp thing with different delay times. WOW. setting 2 is the 3 part harmony thing with pedal controlling the maj/min 3rd. unreal. *****
7.Deacy tone- dry and rev/ nice tone for recording direct with. MUCH better with this then the little white amp.
Digitech...You ROCK! This unit makes my rad red PET into a "red special". I would love to try this unit with a burns RS, buy IMHO... this pedal is as copycat as I would like to get.
Downfall:: hard to use "live", even with the footswitch. But, does incorporate well into my GNX4 as a compliment. MOdels are heavy on "lead" tones. and not as many rhythm. the BEST rhythm tone is the brighton rock, but that one is impractical to use as a main tone because it has the delays on it that cant be eliminated; only dialed out with the footswitch. Tie mother down is second best rhythm tone.
Got mine for $175. for the price of 1 booteek pedal, money well spent. Brian May tone fans, this is the new high water mark (unless you want to spring for the real setup)
BTW, the real setup is the following: a burns RS guitar (or higher buck BETTER copy), a tone-man.com RANGEMASTER treblebooster and VOX BM signature AC30.
