So, this post calls for some backstory.

Got a Stingray from GC very cheap. Actually, somebody else got it, and I bought it from them for what they paid. But, the ray is Natural finish - and I really, really, REALLY want a black Ray.

Cannot buy a second ray. This one was bought 11/10/2009 - and GC will let you return anything purchased 11/01/2009 - 12/24/2009 anytime before 01/31/2010.

So I'm thinking about returning this natural finish one. But odds are I'll have to pony up even more cash to be able to get the black one.

Am I crazy?

Not crazy if black is what you really want. But, you might be better off putting a FT ad on this forum and trying to trade the new natural for a black one.

I'll give GC a call tomorrow and see what the selling price on that black ray is. If its' pretty even with my natural ray, maybe they'll let me swap them out. Can't hurt to ask.

If not, I'll probably post a FT here - but I hate to do that since I'm still so new here.

Yeah, the one I have now is natural with black pg. The one on the wall at GC is black with black pg, but the tag was turned around and I couldn't see what they were asking for it. The shop was loaded with customers and I was with my wife - so I figured I'd return tomorrow.

Hopefully natural and black will be ABOUT the same price with the same pickup configuration. If the black happens to be more, ask to have the black one for what you paid for the natural one. If the price is close they just might do it.
Making a customer happy brings repeat business.

GOOD LUCK, KEEP US POSTED!

AFAIK, the natural finished ones are a tad more expensive than the opaque finished ones, since the wood grain on the natural has to look somewhat nice. That's at least how it was a couple of years ago. Haven't seen an official price list for quite a while.

GC is blowing out pricing on some of the "older" stock stuff and there are a lot of black Stingrays in the blowout pricing. I would check with them. Even if they don't have one at the store you go to, chances are there is one in the system somewhere. I know they have a Black with rosewood neck here at the Cincinnati store for something like $800.00.

Hold up a second, you might want to check if you can return it. You bought it from someone else who bought it. If that person bought it on a GC Credit Card, or any other credit card they're going to take it off his card, not give you the money back, and you will be out of a bass and the money you paid for the bass.

Got word from GC. They gave me the price both on the tag and with tax, and they're apparently having a 5% off sale today, so they gave me the 5% off prices as well.

I'm going to take mine in. The only issue I can see so far is that somehow the guy that bought mine also got 15% off or something - he got it very cheap. I still have the hang tags though, and hopefully they'll do an even swap. Going to try to get back there after work today.

Yeah - I'd thought about that as well. He used a credit card I believe. I definitely would not want to outright return the bass, as he did get a fantastic deal on it.

If I can't just trade it for the black ray, then I'll either hold on to it or sell it and hope to get enough to purchase the black one.

That IS a beautiful looking piece of ash! I'd think twice...just me mind you. The natural ash is the classic Stingray look.

I don't know if you've had a black bass before but they drive me nuts. The show fingerprints and every speck of dust and dirt.
