Dirk Henderson is largely considered one of the greatest bass players of his generation. He is a master of the 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, and 23 string bass guitar. He's been fired from some of the top bands in the world, stepped on countless piano solos with his upper range comping, and been left standing alone on stage while incorporating looped samples during his many jaw dropping bass features. He's loud, he plays the largest bass rig known to mankind and has three full time techs. In addition to playing all the above instruments as well as their fretless counterparts he's a master of harmony, jazz harmony, classical harmony, children’s harmony, harmony as it relates to canine's, world music harmony, and harmonica.
After a world wide tour last year with three chord sensitive songwriter phenom Chrissie Chaist Dirk once again found himself out of a job and back home in Tustin Michigan, population 1,300. Dirk describes his experience on this latest tour in very humble terms.
"I guess I just took one too many solos. Man, she can't handle it, I mean she plays like three chords all night; the drummer starts a song and plays the SAME beat through the whole tune! What am I supposed to do with that? I just tried to re harm her music, let her know of the 602 possible chordal variations available to her by implying different bass notes on each beat. They didn't have to leave me by the side of the road, I mean, they could have talked to me, I could have cut the bass feature back to 45 minutes, man, some people, they just don't get it."
Once home Dirk steadied the course, re focusing his efforts on remaining the greatest bass player to ever play the instrument. He spent weeks preparing his brief 25 second solo spot for his performance at this years venerable music event, The NAMM SHOW in Southern California. Once there he was overcome with elation as he discovered that not one of the other bass god's at the show could play a high "C" string with all five fingers of his right hand faster than he! Dirk was once again on top of his game. Five minutes after his NAMM performance, described by some as "in audible with all the other stuff going on around him" Dirk was asked to participate in next year's premier NAMM event, Bassquake.
Whether it's recklessly abandoning all harmonic approach during a rousing rendition of Giant Steps with ten other bass players, or showing up to a 45 minute gig with 5 different basses, Dirk Henderson has established himself as one of the best, most obnoxious purveyors of the low end in recent history.
"The bass was starting to get boring," says Dirk, "I mean who wants to hear James Jamerson **** all over himself all the time. I'm here to update the instrument, make people realize that you can do more than just play the appropriate root note or some simple catchy idiotic phrase."
Catch him playing nightly at a venue near you, it is simply put, the re invention of the bass guitar as we know it.*
(*biographers note: this account doesn't even take into consideration Dirk Hendersons astounding slapping technique, for more information on that please read the abridged biography appearing in stores next year called "I can slap the star spangled banner over all the things you are")

apologies if this has been seen many times before, it amused me though :)

That statement alone makes me wish he'd suit up for a hunting trip with VP Cheney!

That's funny:D

I know...I gotta laugh, too.

But, in all sincerity...what a douche bag this guy is!

I mean, as great *and* egotistical as Jaco and Jamerson were, they never showed disrespect to those before them...their musical elders as it were.

Those are the types of bass players and musicians that earn my respect in return.

Good satire -- if you read about his new custom bass, it looks like he's either a fictional character, or a player with a good sense of humor. I like the fretboard that starts at the 24th fret.....

'The body is made of high grade Michigan cement, and the neck is a twenty four piece laminate comprised of a single piece of Madagascar Sheet Rock!!! Pick ups are my own design-made from recylcled soundpages taken from old issues of guitar player magazine'
