On 9th June I ordered a new Sterling bass through my local music shop - Andertons in Guildford - they are an excellent retailer and I buy a lot of gear through them. I was expecting delivery of my new bass anytime now but today they told me that Strings n Things, the UK distributor, has lost the order!

I know Andertons are not at fault - I've seen the order sent by email in June and they've even offered me the loan of a Stingray till the (re-)ordered Sterling arrives - but I have one already!

Has anyone else encountered similar cretinous incompetence from Strings n Things? Does anyone know the number of a good hit man?

These things happen. Its not a perfect world unfortunatly. I'm sure S & T wouldnt purposely mislay your order. If anything, S & T do the untmost to look after thier customers. Im sure someone else in the UK may have experience some kind of problem in the past, but there are tons and tons of people who are very happy.

Your new bass will be worth the wait! Im sure the guys at S & T will get it all sorted for you buddy.

Welcome to the forum dude!

I love "cretinous incompetence' that is a hall of fame slam. It made me laugh ...thanks....

That being said Strings and Things could very well have been at fault......but

I really want to get their side of the story..there are always two sides....They dont mess up very often if at all...They have been a fabulous and still are for over 35 years. THey actually make money by filling orders so I dont think if they did in fact lose your order it was intentional

Boys at S and T you better just stick to the facts because I dont think that you cretins can top his insult!

I can understand the frustration, but, things happen sometimes and I am sure they did not single you out. There are two sides to every story and we have seen that quite a few times.

The offer of a "loaner" was a very cool jesture whether you have one or not. That is showing great customer service and should be treated as such.

Let's see if there is a response and go from there. You know, it is easy to slam a distributor, but that is from your point of view. I am sure if this happened the way you said it did....they will make it right for you.

Be patient and understanding. There are actual people there working and to use the cretinous incompetence statement was way above insulting.

I'm sure the order wasn't deliberately lost and I'm equally sure the Sterling will be worth the wait - but the fact remains it looks like I'll be waiting twice as long as I was expecting! It's a good job I have my trusty Stingray to fall back on in the meantime!

P.S. after reading your high opinions of the halfwits S&T I've put the hit man on hold!

Hi Owl,

The nitwits over at Strings and Things are already all over this like clotted cream on a day old biscuit. :) Kidding! Really, we have been contacted about this already this morning and are looking into the problem. Please suspend your judgment of Strings and Things until they have a chance to sort this out for you. One of them will be by soon to post.

Thank you for your patience. Please do not joke about hiring hit men for our beloved partners for over 30 years.
With kindest regards,
Beth

As long as the "insults" are taken in the spirit they were meant - i.e. with tongue firmly in cheek - we are all cool. Big Poppa got the message - he laughed! However, I'm sure you'll all appreciate my disappointment and frustration but I'm sure all that can be done to rectify the situation is being done!
