Hi guys:

I am new to the forum and although I have been lurking here for about 1 month this is my first post. I have recently purchased a fully loaded JP7 in Mystic Dream at a local music store here on Long Island. BTW, the name of the store is Royal Music and they have a huge selection of Ernie Ball guitars, including several Blue Dawn Ltd. editions (JP & LUKE). They are in Merrick, New York, which is where I live.

Now to my question. Do I buy a BFR JP and have my wife kill or divorce me? I contaced a dealer in Maryland who has the Blueburst and Walnutburst in stock now for pretty decent prices. My local store said they will have a Walnutburst 6 and 7 string coming in any day now. Of course since I just bought the other one I think my wife would kill me and probably move out if I bought one. The thing is I do pretty well financially (she works too), but that does not matter to her, of course. Anything to make us married men feel like ass. Just wanted your opinion, although I know you people will say just buy it. Hey if I was single I would have it in a heartbeat.

Just some background on me: I took lessons from John Petrucci here on LI before the popular Dream Theater days. I also own a Ibanez JPM 90th Anniversary Model, which I don't think I would ever sell. It is a fabulous guitar and a collectors item. Nowadays I am an accountant (what fun, LOL), but play every single day.

Thanks for letting me rant.

First, welcome to the forum!!!

Well you only live once. If you buy it, she may be angry but will eventually get over it. Maybe you can work in a purchase for her?
You already know that you're buying it and that posting such is only admittance.
Nobody here is going to tell you not to make the purchase.
So what are you waiting for??? :D

First buy her something real nice (for instance my life likes jewellry) and beg (on your knees with tears in your eyes if need be...don't be too proud...and tell here how much this is your absolute dream guitar). Show her pictures....even take her into the store. If you have and only as a last resort tell her that you will turn around and sell your Mystic although you don't want to rush it and take a big hit on it. That may help buy some time. That's pretty much been working for me for the past year since if been going through my own midlife crisis and a bad case of GAS.

Welcome.... Do some "creative accounting" and just get it. Will your wife be able to tell them appart? Some cant...then you are in luck.

Cheers and good luck,

J

Good response Dubai. I think I will wait until my local store gets it and wait for an opportunity to bring it in the house without my wife noticing. Hopefully she won't be able to tell the guitar is different, but I have a feeling she will. I will have to go to the bank and take cash out of our savings account. Thats the only way it'll work. Otherwise I might be asking forumers to live with them.

Just remember, your guitars were around long before her, and will be around long after she leaves. Just man up, ask to borrow your balls for a minute (check her purse, they may be in there) and BUY IT!!! C'mon you're from Strong Island!!

oh and welcome to the forum...:p

Seriously, buy it.

That's a surefire plan to get caught. Don't you think that she will notice a rather large withdrawal from your joint savings account? I wish you nothing but good luck on that one.

First off Welcome! I am new here too.

Here's what I think you should do. Tell her that there is this Ball Family Reserve Run of the guitar that has been released and that it's not like the one you have. You're not sure how long it will around and really want to get it. Then tell her that the wait is over 6 months and all you need to do is put down 300 or so non refundable $ to lock in your order. Then get her something nice and have her thinking that it's only $300 now and you have awile to save. Then after she thinks you're order is in and you'll be "saving" to cover the cost in 6+ months come and say "OMG you won't believe what happened some guy ordered the guitar I want from the same store and has now backed out on the order and decided to get a LUKE BFR instead (you must show her pics of the Luke so she understands that it's different). The guys from the store have called me because the one he back out on is now mine and it's in!"

This should work like a charm

Tell her you'll give up other women or guitars. Let her choose. ;)

Lucky for me I have a very understanding wife when it comes to this sort of thing.

Good Luck and welcome!

I usually just look straight ahead and say
Yeah... that's right... I bought a new guitar.....I'm the man in this family, I work hard for my money and i'll spend it any freakin' way I want to.......now get back inside and make me some chicken. *

If you're not going to jeopardize your family finances by purchasing anything beyond your means and it gives you a little pleasure go for it.

Plus if you add them both up, its still cheaper than a sports car. And much cheaper than a young girlfriend, which would eventually cost you half

(*just a bit of comic relief in the event my wife actually sees this)

Look at the positive side of things, maybe she won't kill you and just move out.......................then you will have a ton of room for gear. Oh and welcome to the forum.

I'm not going to go broke, that is not the issue. Obviously, the issue is I just spent a nice chunk of change on the JP7. I have a little bit of a spending issue. I buy everything and don't really care. I buy a lot of CD's, HDDVD's, Blu Rays. PS3 games, and electronics. What can I say, I'm a guy and like my toys. Of course music is more than just a hobby to me, but that is something my wife doesn't really care. She wants to save for the future and out daughter. I just want the guitar. Will $xxxx make such a difference 10 years from now. No I don't think so. The female mind works differently though. I lease my wife's does. I have a lot of crap to sell, so maybe I will try to sell some stuff. (watches, tv, electronics, etc)

FYI, I think the mods frown upon listing specific $ values on new EBMM instruments.

Also, in all seriousness, whatever you decide to do, be honest. I definitely wouldn't go behind her back and buy a guitar. She will be much more pissed that you did something like without ever telling her. I know I would be pissed if my wife bought something equally as expensive without any prior knowledge.

1. Just BS on the price.
2. Tell her it's an OLP model.
3. Show her the cheap guitars in a Musicians Friend catalog to adjust her to guitar prices
4. Buy the BFR
