Ever since I got my Bongo my other basses, including my Sterling just sit around hoping I'll give them the love they deserve. They just don't seem as much fun anymore. I already sold my Warwick, been trying to sell my Dano's (anybody want a Hodad?) - the Sterling is a tough one to part with though. It has a definite snap to it that the Bongo doesn't - but I dunno. I'm getting a strong feeling all I'm gonna be playing from here on in are my Bongos. How much play time do your other basses get, guys? Which brings to mind the question - are there any women on this board? Gale Ann Dorsey should get her butt over here. I met her at BP live this year and she's pretty damn cool.

Not much. I have a perfectly wonderful 62 RI Jazz bass that has been in The Bass Closet for....well, two years. Yikes.

Every now and then I do grab Heinz just to keep him warm and I took him as a backup last week, but that's it - backup.

I've been woodshedding with this Pace Upright Electric thingy, trying to get comfortable enough to play it in public, but it's really just a diversion. Even my partner Brian, who is VERY traditional and doesn't much like the Bongo looks, said the other night when I was playing the Pace - "Sure miss that Bongo tone."

I've been playing pretty much one Bongo or another since November of 2003. It seems unlikely that things will change much any time soon.

It's a fun toy isn't it Jack? I play mine on a few of our slower worshippy stuff for church and people that I wouldn't even think know anything about sound come up and tell me what great tone the Pace has. Fun :p

It's an odd little monster, but I am enjoying it. I need bigger, fatter, thumpier strings on it. The ones it shipped with are horrid.

What do you have on yours?

And is this an official hijack?

+1 on the hijack Jack! Yes the original strings were horrible. I put D'Addario Chromes Flats and it sounds killer. The low B is too thick down by the ball so it sticks out but whattya gonna do? :D

Oops just saw yours is a 4 banger so you should be fine with Chromes. BTW the low B tone is amazing - really thick yet round and defined. OK, OK enough about a Dean bass - sorry E-B!!!

Ain't that the truth! I bought a cheapo bass recently just because it looked nice, but the sound just didn't work in the praise team context. I've been spoiled by the Bongo but I couldn't be happier! :D We Bongo bassists are like the Hellenistic upper class of the Rome. :p

Todd, nice to see ya back.

I don't have any other basses, save an acoustic which doesn't come out much.

I'd like....

A Bongo
Something from Big P's new range (whatever they are, I'll want 1 out of 12!)
An electric upright

My daughters have taken up Viola & Cello and I used to be a cellist. I have one in the attic at Mom's so I'm going over at the weekend to bring it out of retirement as I'm really enjoying playing my daughter's one!

Considering what my unique other bass is (korean made passive entry level bass), I don't play anything other than the bongo. Just keep my other bass in order to play, to have a back-up (but the difference is so huge that I hope I won't need it).

I don't have the money for any other bass, so the bongo is going to be my main instrument for a long while.

At home, all I've been playing are the Bongos. At gigs, my Custom Shop PBass gets to take a set in the middle. Although, at my last gig, the PBass got replaced halfway through a set....

I've recently started to grab my 8 string fretless to work on some looping stuff, but my Bongos are still demanding most of my playing time in the evenings.

I've also sold 4-5 basses since the Bongos arrived since I knew I'd never touch them, again.

My Stingray and Sabre have been sitting in their cases since I got my Bongo. I played the SR last night cuz I took it out to take pictures of it so I can sell it.

Now, I'm gonna probably buy one of whatever new model comes out...

Next question - are Bongos going to eventually take over the world???

If ya ever want to have some fun, go over to talkbass, do a search on Bongos, and read the history. From the most hated "$700" bass that just about everyone laughed at, to some of the worst cases of gas I've ever seen. It's interesting to me how new things frighten the hell out of some people, and how quickly opinions can get changed once something is accepted by others.

They already have. Some people are just too thick to realize it!

It will be interesting to see what the new models do to Bongo Mania.

My other bass hasn't seen daylight since the Bongo came in. Heck, I even like to play it unplugged when my girlfriend and I watch TV at night!

Hey Joe Nerve, here's a dumb southern boy question. Do you take the Bongo on the subway??? I'm trying to picture it!

I'd be pissed too if I spent over $3000 for a boutique bass made from tulip wood from India, or made of some wood that was found at the bottom of the Hudson river.
They suffer from denial that, any bass that is massed produced is therefore inferior. Thus their senses overide the advantage of owning a Bongo, no matter how good it sounds or plays.

I'm of the opinion that a good mass prod bass beats the boutique s**t hands down.

Anyone who makes a one-off POS gets if in the neck from one customer, once. A company making hundreds has to get it right >95% of the time or have a real busy complaints dept, no?

Just my 0.02..
