do maple necks become yellow over time?

i'd think it'd be something like...how paper turns yellow, but i was wondering if all the necks did this. because mine is nice and whitish right now, but i'm wondering if it will turn yellow.

thanks.

You can't really tell with the sunlight on it, but you can see in this pic where there has been some "yellowing" of the neck. Nothing bad though.

I'm personally not too keen on the white white white maple necks you get sometimes. My bass teacher has a vintage P-bass w/ maple neck, and that looks so good. It looks like it's smoked 60 a day for it's whole life right through the truss rod. The old ones really are the best.

i really don't mind yellow; sorta the vintage vibe, you know?

but right now, i like it white. because it's...white.

i think it will yellow after a couple of years even if i keep it inside all the time though. you know? acid gets through...etc. etc.
does anyone know how long?

How long it will take depends on what it's exposed to & for how long/often and how you look after it. Any crap from your hands will be tranferred & probably hold any discolouring stuff in.

No-one here could say, "Oh, it'll happen in 'x' weeks/months/years"... now could they?

My 79 'Ray was stored for about 17 years and the neck was still white when I opened the case in 1997. It's only starting to orange now and gets very little exposure to the elements.
