john petrucci himself would never use a scratched mm. he has about 10 to 20 of his signature models on tour.

the way he is using them is strange in my opinion.

there are for example other musicians (like doyle bramhall, snowy white, david gilmour or derek trucks) who are usin only one or maybe two guitars on stage. and that gives em character..in my eyes.

The MM build quality is so consistent from instrument to instrument you don't need to search through hundred's to find a good one. So you can have multiple instruments and use them on stage if they are MM's and it won't throw you off.

About the thing why he doesn't just use one or two....The guy has around a million different tunings! If he did have a preferred model it must have been that Mystic Dream one that he used in all his promo pics/interviews/DVDs/Young Guitar DVDs etc.

I think it only makes sense that you'd want to take care of something you paid so much $$$ for....Who buys a BMW M3 and does a once-over with a rake?! Idiocy!

It´s looks a bit selfmade?!?!?!

LOL @ that guitar.

I've also seen JP play a lot with a silver non-BFR 7 stringer, the one that he used to record SC. But that got replaced by a Green BFR7 when I saw him live.

EB's prototypes are killer quality; hence Myung's Bongo 6es. They wouldn't make something like that!

That was Gunsmoke. He has used that one for a number of years, recording a number of albums. I first saw him using it on the video footage from the Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence sessions. It also appears during "This Dying Soul" on the "Live at Budokan" DVD.
