I tend to keep a few guitars out and ready to play and a few in their cases (only feet away) and rotate which ones are out and which are away.

Right now, I'm in the process of learning 2 Van Halen songs so have my Axis SS out tuned to E flat learning Eruption and my Jackson in standard tuning cleaning up Little Guitars. My Ovation acoustic is always out to pick up to play anytime with my son when he is doing his lessons. At the moment, my Sub1 is in the case and the Guild is as well. I'll probably rotate one of these....or both out when the urge strikes me.

How about the rest of you guys? I literally have my amp and the SS and Jackson (and headphones and laptop connection) within reaching distance. Works well when I am doing something random like email or watching TV and decide I'd rather play something.....

I use different guitars for different things, but I leave the Subs out and keep the Luke in the case nearby. Under the bed is a Tele and a Martin and a Classical which havn't seen the light of day in quite some time now.

I'm about to sell off a bunch of unused gear(dusty amps, Tele, pedals, etc) to hopefully get another EBMM. My new moto is, if it aint getting used, get rid of it.

I have 2 Balls, so I dont have to rotate that often. However I tend to play each one for about a week and then switch to the other one. However it also depends in what kind of a tonal mood I am in since they are both completely different sounding.

The only people who really rotate guitars are ZZTop......I'm sure you'll find the video on YouTube somewhere....

Personally I think it's a mistake having too many guitars, you waste a lot of time deciding which one to play

My guitars stay at home with me and my "small" practice amp. Concerning rotation, I always take different guitars with me to rehearsals to explore and add different sounds to songs to find out what suits me or rather a song best. I hate being limited to a single model or sound

I'd say I give my 2 JPs equal amount of attention :)
And I do "rotate" them during a gig too

Damn Ivan, I must have missed you purchasing your second Ball (JP) during my involuntary absence at then end of last year ?!
Congrats pal - sorry - I missed out on your German tour as well as I changed jobs and had quite a tuff time at my new employer as far as we don't have public internet access & stuff...
Hope to see you next time around though !

Andy,

Too many guitars - don't ever let our wives see this!!! Are you a "double agent"??
Lol:)

Yeah Jack,

What guitars I play (where & when) is critical to me!! ONLY because of fretwear. I have specific guitars for specific functions.

Several of my MM Axis guitars have absolutely no fretwear. They are reserve giggin' guitars only.

On my "giggin' guitars (MM's & Wolfgang's) I don't like to put extra fretwear on them, so I only play them "live".

I also have a specific MM guitars: ( half step down- my EVH trib band, std tuning, with a Super Distortion for practicing; Ibanez trunk guitar for practicing on the road; small Squire for building dexterity on small frets; Les Paul back profile neck for my finger weights and hand muscle strength; and my bodiless guitar for practicing when I'm jogging.

I love playing guitar, but I do take it seriously!!:)

That's funny - I always think that same thing, but lately rather focus on playing the instruments that serve the song best. We play sort of a wide variety between funk, classic rock, southern rock & metal, so I cannot quite rely on a single type of instrument...

I have four in rotation for shows..

#1 EVH w/ D-tuna - covers most of what I do.
#2 JP w/ piezo - for those tunes with acoustic needs.
#3 20th Silo Hardtail w/ piezo - for those tunes with drop D acoustic needs or 20th toneblock hotness.
#4 Axis Sport - tuned drop C

Dargie Luke has cleans to die for but stays cased under the bed.
Gremlin Green ASS keeps Dargie Luke company under the bed.

Every day I take three out of their cases and have them nearby. Which three I grab depends on my mood, but my EBMM is always one of them.
Lately my favs have been my Silo and two Str@ts. They all sound different. It's amazing how much better and easier to play the Silo is. :D

I really don't have that problem since I've only got one electric that gets any playing time anymore. :D But my Axis stays in its case when it's not being played, as does my Ovation acoustic. I've got a 3-year-old running around the house, so no way am I leaving those sitting out.

I've got a few cheapo guitars sitting out -- an Ibanez and a Washburn acoustic -- ones that I won't be heartbroken if the stand goes over and they end up smashed on the floor. I've got a Squier HM that's got some sentimental value (it was the first guitar my wife bought me years ago) in its case that I play occasionally, a Robin Raider II that hasn't left its case since the last time I listed it on eBay (really nice guitar just too much of a baseball bat neck for me) and the rest are tucked away in the closet collecting dust.

Oh, my Carvin bass (closest thing that I've got to "vintage") sits out, too, but I rarely pick it up.
