Moral: they can be trained!
Jack

Very true - training has been working for me.

My son gets within 4-5 feet from my bass wall then
turns around sayin " na-no na-no!". He's 21 months
and will not touch one unless I'm holding one and tell
him it's ok . . it's adorable . .

I can't find my rack tuner though . . . :)

Married with Children...
I keep them tucked away and under lock and key... ;)
otherwise my boys would be surfing them down the staircase.
As to being trained, some can, and some really can't.
My one 5 year old boy gets into so much trouble I tell him that I won't be bailing him out of jail when he's a teenager, he's going to stew in there.

Very true. I keep my basses in a separate studio which of course helps, and my 5-yr old knows better than to go in there. Although, even when I let him come in he keeps his hands off my stuff and goes right for his guitar (a 3/4th scale Ibanez).

Yes, he keeps his guitar in my studio. It's actually helped him make the distinction between toy and instrument. Another big plus!

always keep my Sterling in it's case when not in use, plus when i take it out - it has a nice play doh type smell to it from the inside of the case - mmmmm :D

I also keep an old P-bass by the bed for protection.

That's too funny:p

My first bass was a fender and of course as a newbe I forgot the neck was much longer than a lead guitar and immediatly put it through a sheet rock wall:eek:. Didn't even knock the bass out of tune (not that I could tell back then anyways)!!!!

Out of my 3 basses, the one I feel like playing at that time stays out and the other 2 stay in the case. As I'm typing this, I'm favoring the Blue Dawn Sterling, especially since it just got restrung with some Extra Slinky's.

In a van, down by the river...
Usually, I keep the Sterling on the wall with it's likewise valuable six-string brethren, (except for whichever one that is on duty that day, which will be on a stand next to the teeny little box of tubes used to amplify such things...)

Out in the living room, next to bass rig, one of Sterling's less-valuable colleagues usually stands ready.

Interestingly, I too, have a young child in the house, but she is well-trained and knows not to mess with Daddy's toys--kind of like the scene in Spinal Tap where Nigel is showing his collection to Marty--"Don't even look at that one."

Never, ever leave any guitars out. Are you mad? I've got 3 boys!!! Hence, the purple colour of my EVH is the same today as it left the factory.
