Drummers who sing are just sick though. Ridiculously Sick. I think we can all agree on that.

I agree.. Hell.. just finding a drummer who understands PITCH is quite a task! :D

No...they get nervous if I even get near a mic.

......but I used to do a lot of harmonies many years ago in one band.

Funny - I can play walking rockabilly lines and sing with no problems, but do NOT ask me to play a root-five line and sing at the same time.

How odd is that?

I think that's because you live in Texas.

:D :D :D :D

I give it my best effort. I never used to be able to do it, but I've just been sprinkling it here & there where I can and I know I won't screw it up too much (say riding the same note for the whole time I'm singing).

It gets harder as either the vocal line or the bass line changes up too much during the course of the thing.

I think it's definitely a practice thing, where you get to the point that you're on autopilot for at least one of them, and can therefore focus on the other. It's still really difficult for me to separate the two.

I think I read somewhere that Geddy Lee has a hard time at first when there are new songs being written, but that after a while it gets done.

Oh well, my too scents

I try to sing only backups but am sometimes forced to sing that other part that I do not want to sing.

Not odd at all. root five is 2 beats that gotta be right on or else.

IMHO of course

Found one! :D The drummer I play with in my church's praise team can sing quite well while laying down the rhythm! Too bad he doesn't get a mic, I hear him sometimes and it's mighty fine singing! Now all he needs to do is work on his punctuality (covered before in another thread :p). He's getting better, though!

I find I can sing backup stuff whilst playing bass without much problem. Lead vocals on the other hand is, to me, incredibly difficult. I find it easy to sing lead vocals whilst playing a 6 string guitar though.

Nope - no sing for me...

But somehow I became the guy that is expected to whistle during "Me & Julio Down by the Schoolyard"...

I used to sing and play piano at church growing up, but never sang backup and played bass untill about 2yrs ago when i got the gig i have now. Wow what a change. It's really second hand now unless there's some odd-time stuff, then i have to think a little.
