I've been an Axis /EVH guy for a long time. Most comfortable guitars ever for me.

I do like to try different things though...so I have a JP-6 on its way to me. Got it in a trade.

I know the Petrucci's have a different neck profile...and I'm expecting that they would have an overall bigger kind of feel to them.

Anyone successfully use both & switch back & forth between them? I'm thinking they could be worlds apart.

I should have it on monday. Here it is by the way.

Depends on both what you like/dislike and how well you adapt. I've had a few thin necked thru and thru metal guitars (trade for some wheels and tires) and actually used one in Sunday services twice. But I've always had a lot of guitars that are all different. The Axis neck is the most comfortable to me as well. Give it a shot. I love the flatter radius on the JP. I'm somewhat clumsy with my picking hand and switch the lower toggle by mistake on the JP....otherwise, I'd probably have one by now.

I think you'll like that adjustment. Are you giving up on the Axis, or is the JP6 an addition to the family? Reason why I asked, is because I mainly always use my JP6 on gigs, it never leaves my side and has been as faithful as an old man's sheep dog. The Axis, I pick up for 2nd sets, random songs, noodling etc. I don't see any role reversal, but I can tell ya, they are two different animals that unleash nasty fury when called upon.

Just an addition. I would never give up on the Axis...those are my favorites.

The JP6 was offered to me in trade for another guitar that I was selling. Since I had never tried one...I went for it just out of curiosity.

If I end up liking the JP6...it will be a nice addition. If I can't bond with it...I will just put it up for sale or trade for another Axis or EVH.

I did not bond with JP but that's just me and it takes time to bond with a guitar and a certain neck; I know people don't like the Luke neck but I like, so just try and play and insist if you don't bond with it immediately

Now do yourself a favor when you will receive the guitar, string it properly :D I guy who ahd it before probably never used locking tuners before. I can't live with them now!!

I'm an Axis guy. I personally don't care for the necks on the JPs. It feels too much like an Ibanez Wizard neck, at least that's what I remember it feeling like. Skinny and not chunky like an axis. I was a JEM player before my EVH/Axis transition. Jems had fat necks, so the transition was natural. Not knocking the JPs, they are great guitars. Feels completely different to me than the Axis. And it is meant to. :)

I use both and I don't have any trouble switching. The flatness / wideness of the petrucci took some time to get used to but I do find that the axis neck is a better fit for me.

I'm an axis guy and once tried a JP but really didn't bond with the neck at all, way too flat. I'm more a fan of bigger necks these days and now wish the axis was bigger...an axis with a dark lord morse profile sounds good to me!

Its here. Really nice guitar. Great balance. Very comfortable body design. Love the contours.

Of course with the piezo option...there are some great sounds to be had.

But...I am so set in my ways. This is what I worried about. I didn't realize that the neck would be that thin.

So far that neck is a real hand cramper for me. I am so used to having that fat little Axis/EVH neck sitting there against the palm of my hand.

It might seem a bit odd at first, but keep practicing and playing with it (and both) and you will adjust. I have an ASS and JP and really have little trouble switching back and forth
