Just thought I'd throw this out as I'm wondering if others with specific taste in music have wives or girlfriends that don't like what you like best?

Mine hates the frantic stuff I like, but enjoys the acoustic guys I listen to.
And I always have to listen to Rob Thomas and Matchbox 20 who she worships.

My wife and I like alot of the same stuff, but for some reason she hates some of my absolute favorites: Yes, Rush, Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, Zappa. OK, so she doesn't like Prog, but has come around on the metal thing. She hated metal when we met 20 years ago.

I will occationally play a "light" song very acoustic and mellow and ask her if she likes it. I usually know she will and she knows it's not my normal taste. My Friends by RHCP, Little Guitars Intro by EVH, Beatles Blackbird.

She's sort of the Barry Manilow kind of music lover.

I'm more AC/DC, EVH, old Guns n' Roses, Aerosmith.

It gets "interesting" because my 12 year old is into the death metal stuff. I've learned a bit of it just to get him interested in playing the guitar. The wife won't even allow it without headphones.

I guess the short answer to the original question is "diametrically opposed".

There is a fair amount of crossover in the mainstream stuff we both enjoy, but my wife has no interest in the all instrumental guitar stuff that i've gotten into over the past decade or so.

She's primarily a child of the 70's singer-songwriter genre. James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Dan Fogelberg, Eagles, CSNY etc.

Yeah,

Pretty cool, my wife likes "almost" everything I like and gig with, and she also plays it on bass (but, I won't let her in my band).

Only thing is, I have have to play it "exact" or she'll let me know!! lol, lol, lol

However, she doesn't go as far to the "edgy stuff" as I do, but I'm tuggin' on her.:)

I've never been with a woman who listens to my core favorites. Never. Sure, there have been women with whom I agreed on some things, but generally, music is something I don't really share with the women who have passed through my life.

We listen to some things that we both like and she tolerates some of my other tastes as I with hers, we both hate bubble gum and rap, just not music:)

I class everything my wife listens to as techno music, even when it is clearly not techno. Saying it drives her nuts and gives me a chuckle everytime she reacts.

unfortunately kaylynn is one of those who just cant comprehend songs any longer than radio edits. Im big into dream theater and jp and she just doesnt like it. She does however like some of the really heavy stuff....but only if the song lasts at max 4 minutes ;):p:rolleyes:

Cool Thread !

Missus Dizz and I had identical music tastes when we were young'uns - before we met - both heavy tastes.

Our old CD collections were SO similar : GnR, Skid Row, Extreme, and so on.
She was never into the instrumental stuff though.
Our tastes still share a lot in common.

She's tamed alot now - and so have I (but to a lot lesser extent).
She does spin me out with some ridiculous brain fades : she bought Guy Sebastian & Shannon Noll's first Aussie Idol CD's !

Every now and then we pull out the old stuff and have a bit of a mosh.

Deep down, she's still the dreadlocked, fish net stocking'd, Doc Martin'd pommie rock chick.

We went to see a cover band a while ago.
A few drinks and a good tune and she's right back into it.

I remember standing back watching her on the edge of the dance floor with her friend.

There she was standing all nice and composed at 6'1"in her heels.
Then on comes on an old fav song (can't remember which one), and she broke out into the biggest mosher out there, headbanging (Sebastian Bach style), hair going everywhere. The bunch of young blokes who were trying to crack on to her didn't quite know what to do - I think she scared them a bit ! :D

my girlfriend is pretty good... she "says" she likes dream theater, circus maximus, symphony x, which is cool cos those are some of my most favs. she absolutely hates, opeth, necrophagist, cannibal corpse, and... anything with a really brutal voice. and cant stand 70's prog. we meet on a middle ground of radio head, pearl jam, silverchair... that kinda stuff... she likes alot of indie-acoustic talentless **** that deserve 50 dollar guitars too... (triple j for the aussies at home) but when where in my car i'm puttin' on megadeth woman!

My wife can take it or leave it, but she tolerates it more then I tolerate her music!

My wife likes (though not necessary loves) much of the stuff I love. She does love Luke's stuff, and has accompanied me to see Toto twice. Our tastes generally overlap at the lighter end of my taste spectrum (Crowded House etc); her tastes are a little softer than mine. She tolerates my relatively heavier tastes with grace and minimal complaints. Fortunately for me, the softer/sappier stuff that she likes at least requires some talent to perform, so it's not hard to endure. (She also has an interest in light opera...I struggle with that! Not enough guitars used in G&S operettas!)

The other women in my life (my three daughters) have all acquired a taste for much if the stuff I like. (Some might say I've brain-washed them). My eldest is a HUGE Luke/Toto fan...now, if only I could find a way to make her stop listening to the Jonas Brothers. Ooops...did I say that out loud? She's probably going to find this post, and when she does, I'm dead! (I'm only joking, Rebecca!! ;) )
