I class everything my wife listens to as techno music, even when it is clearly not techno. Saying it drives her nuts and gives me a chuckle everytime she reacts.

That sounds like a fun game! I think I'll start classing everything my wife likes as "country"...that should get a good reaction!

Ok Wendy and I pretty much listen to the same stuff, our CD collection is vast, we are both still 80's throw backs and we both tend to listen to alternative stations on the radio for the most part.

The one real difference is that Wendy is a fanatic for Franz Ferdinand!!! I like to call her a stalker, I usually get a look. She's become friends with the band and they let her into shows early when she goes to see them and such. Hence the reason she was in England back in June for like 5 days. She went to 3 or 4 shows to see they perform some new stuff.

My girlfriend likes to watch Dream Theater DVDs every so often, I think it's a really good sign. :)

My wife splits it up the middle: hates electric stuff by Eric Johnson and John McLaughlin:confused:and any kind of outside fusion/rock stuff, but loved seeing the acoustic shows we saw by both Eric and John. ;) On the other hand, "Good Dog, happy Man" by Bill Frissell is her favorite all-time album. She has gone thru about 3 copies of that disc in her car. Go figure. great topic question by the way!:D

I'm in the same boat as Colin here. My girlfriend mostly likes techno. She loves to go dance and listen to all that stuff that sounds computer generated to me ;)

She listens to normal, middle of the road pop-rock too. I can tolerate that but i HATE the techno stuff. it drives me mad.

On the other hand she's super nice & rad so I cant tell if she actually digs the punk rock stuff i listen to or just smiles and says shes liking it b/c shes so damn nice. However, when I put on anything with screaming style vocals she'll cringe and let me know she's not into it

Rob,

Don't worry about it, that's why they call it MusicMAN!!

???????;)

My hubby doesn't care for blues or jazz like I do, but classic rock and some folk he likes. He likes most of what I play, and we can find plenty to listen to that we agree on. My son likes everything I do and has turned me on to surf rock and a bunch of other stuff I never would have found.

My current girlfriend loves what I play so it is a plus for me. She loves going to my shows and hanging out with the other wives.

She does like various amounts of other music as well.

I am very lucky, Hannah has an excellent taste in music. In fact she has a better taste in music than me! She loves her oldies and classic 80's Van Halen and the like!

I think my wife is fairly split on the things I like. She likes:

Richie Kotzen's vocal releases
Andy Timmons
Zakk Wylde's Book of Shadows
AC/DC
and definately Joe Bonamassa

Dislikes: pretty much anything without vocals ;) She's kinda in the "can't express yourself without a vocal hook or words" camp, which completely flusters me, because she likes some baaaad music just because she likes the words! :D Different strokes I guess, I still love her just the same ;)

Paula describes my musical tastes as, "that weird sh!t you listen to."

Ah, marital bliss.

I get "hey, that's nice. now can we listen to my ipod instead?".

Props to her, though, she can pick out a Steve Morse tune after about 20 seconds.

What is this "wife" you speak of?

hmmmmm.....wife you ask......hmmmmm

Know one you will not, while stormtrooper outfit you wear....hmmm.... If once you start down the geek path, forever will it dominate your destiny,

Good relations with the wookies you have....but not so much the ladies.......happens to every guy sometimes this does....hmmm

My wife is also the bass player in my band, so, yes. :)

We actually like the same stuff for the most part. Honestly, I like anything that's played with feeling on actual instruments, and she's about the same. We can't get into rap or weird techno music that's all made on computers, or corporate music like the Nashville scene where one bunch of people are hired to write songs, and another bunch of photogenic people are hired to perform them. Although, Brad Paisley, for one, came out of the Nashville scene, so it isn't all bad.

Lately, I'm getting tired of metal, because newer metal doesn't sound heavy anymore, and the genre is getting hackneyed again, like it did in the 80's. The guitars all sound pretty thin and shrill, too, which I'm having trouble enjoying. She's been listening to some bluegrass stuff lately, which I can listen to and enjoy without really getting excited about it, and I've been on an SRV kick, which I think affects her about the same way.
