We appreciate the feedback. Whether positive or negative, Guitar Center does want to hear what you have to say and we listen closely. Sterling, you're the man. Thanks for the headsup about this thread. You've got a great community going here. I spend quite a bit of time here at EB listening in to conversations about GC. You guys are loyal customers that truly know the gear. There's a lot for us to learn here on the forums. My apologies to those of you that feel you didn't get the service you deserve. Hopefully we get it right more often than we get it wrong. Guitar Center is very proud of the shopping experience that we provide, and we're always trying to improve. Keep talking, and I'll keep taking notes! If anybody has any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to hit me up directly. Thanks!

Ronnie, so that was you who busted that vintage SG bass - oh well, it was ready to go anyway!!:)

That would be me. The action was so poor on that SG so I figured 5 full turns of a 40-50 year old truss rod would do the trick. Unfortunatly when it snapped the only thing that SG was good for was use as a bow and arrow.

As far as Guitar Center...GC is my Disneyland!!!

tryin hard to hold back here...but i cant!

if you came into my store and messed with "my" gear that way i would have had to adjust your neck by twisting it a couple of times... and you would pay for the broken bass before i started your adjustment! and afterwards i would charge you an hour of guitartech "neck" work as well!

fawk! dont ever mess with vintage gear!! unless you are dan erlewine or equivalent you are not qualified!!!!!!!

MrM

ps: for all i know you could be dan erlewines second cousin
pps: i have let this simmer for some time and i still feel the same so i am going to go against all good principles and post this anyways..

I can assume that was directed at me? If so..please note I did not do this in a store..this was my personal bass that was given to me by someone who "stole" a bass that I had custom built for me by JEM. To make up for it, he gave me the vintage SG. I was young and naive at the time and didn't think the rod would break..but found out they do..and it cost me a vintage..expensive lesson.

Now these days of course I know how to set action and adjust truss rods..and I know to advise anyone that doesn't know how..not to attempt it themselves. So I don't take insult to what you stated..but never at ANY age would i be inconsiderate enough to mess with someone elses stuff..or try to adjust a trussrod in a music store on one of their basses...did you really think I did that???

my apologies for thinking those bad thoughts about a fellow knucklehead!!! (i couldnt find a smiley that would suit here but rest assured im not joking/making sarcastic remarks or using irony at this point ;))

From one knucklehead to another..it's all good.

I wish there was some footage of the look on my face when she snapped...."priceless".

yeah....

I've seen it too. There was a beautiful sunburst SR4 at my local GC. The bass had a huge quarter sized chip on the bottom of it. I think they are going to have to start changing their policy, and stop allowing people to just go in a pick up instruments without asking a sales rep.

I'll tell you, it would be nice to have a better selection of Bongos in your stores. I can't even find a store in my area that even has 1  What is up with that, I mean you can't sell them if they are not there.

we have 3 GCs in the twin cities
Idol, you forgot about my GC. I work at the Guitar Center in Oakdale, which is more on the south side. I think we do a decent job of keeping of keeping our guitars clean and playable, but it can be hard to keep up with all of them. But we've got a pretty good crew and are easy to work with. We're not going to "scam" you, (I've heard complaints like this before about mentioned store).
So in conclusion there are 4 GC's in the twin cities, don't forget about us here in oakdale!

Whoever setup the hangars at my local GC was a complete dumbass...90% of them have these wingnuts on them that are tightened in a away that when someone puts a bass back up on the rack it gets dinged. I would say the majority of their basses have these little dings in the wood opposite the nut. I told the manager (whom I know) about this, but they haven't done a thing about it.

It is really sad to see these instruments treated this way, I was there one day when some dumbass teeneager dropped a Les Paul and snapped the headstock off...it is just unreal.
