Hi fellow low-enders,

I did a search and couldn't find a thread on the same topic, so am starting a new one.

Have any of you had to replace the preamp (active electronics) of a Bongo 5 HS bass before? If so, what was te cost of the spare part like? thankyou!

Call EBMM Customer Service. They are not for Sale, but maybe you could send in your old one, and then pay for the new one? Not really sure how that works.

Hi John,

yep. I would just like to know if somebody else has done this before and what they paid, so I know if my local dealer is being reasonable.

does it need to be entirely replaced, or just repaired? did someone swap it out for another preamp? I usually think it's best to send stuff like that back to the manufacturer. nobody knows MM preamps like MM.

Maybe I'll ask another way - is ~ $151 a reasonable price for the preamp?
I just had a look at Aguilar OBP-3 prices so I am guessing this is the same ball park and therefore reasonable?

$151 IS reasonable. No other is made for the Bongo, (as in matches the Bongo's spec).

Put it this way, in the UK that's about £100 or less. VERY cheap.

The quality of that pre-amp matches all the 'boutique' pre-amps.

:)

I love taking people to task on stuff like that though. I respect people's opinions, when they actually have an informed one. If you've never owned a MM bass and tweaked it all over the place, you shouldn't be talking about whether they are one trick ponies or not. Too many people just regurgitate crap they've read on the internet.

Update: spanking new preamp is installed - she plays and sounds GRRRRRRRRRREAT! Happy days! I've been playing 3 hours straight and my wife finally is hauling me out of my man cave. thought i'd just let everybody know there's a happy ending to this. I think the preamp must have been spoiled for quite a while cos I can't remember her sounding this good before.

Thanks!
