I haven't ever had any problem with the jack on any of my basses and I haven't read or heard of that problem here. What kind of cable are you using and have you used the same on all three jacks? That's where I would be tempted to point my finger if you've been using the same one. I would think it would be really unusual for three jack to go bad.

No kidding. I've had Stingrays from the seventies that still had the original jacks.

What are you doing to the poor things??

ONCE ON TOUR, IT WENT, WASNT THE CABLE. cause i switched them. since then, ive had the same monster cable. the first time it happend with the monster cable. i took everything apart, re soldered it all up. didnt happen agaijn, till last night when my band played hellfest. i go to hit the first note of the song, and i thought my level was too low. then i realized the tuner wasnt registered, so i touched the cable and it worked. so it may be the actual monster cable. i hope

I have a cable that does that to me as well. touch it and it works. Wouldn't be working on my bass over that. Think is is just an undersized pin on the jack. Usually have more problems with one end of mine in the amp than I do with it in the bass. Time to get a new cable I know. That cable also just started that one day out of the blue too.

Serious? I'm still using my Monster cable that I got when I purchased my first bass. That was about three years ago. It still kicks. The cable. The bass is a POS.

If you're in a touring band and suspect a dodgy cable, just toss the cable and get a new one. Surely it's not worth the risk? Also, buy a multimeter and learn how to use it (it's dead easy) to check cables. Will save you a lot of time and worry wondering whether it's your jack, effects pedal or something else.

Excellent advice about the multimeter. All you need is an inexpensive meter to check continuity.

I know and use a multi-meter. The cable I have messing me around checks fine every time with it. The problem with mine I found using a micrometer. The cable end ping (Male) is smaller than any other working cable I got. Hell simple knowing how to solder willl fix it.

Hellfest? That's the problem right there. Try playing Heavenfest-you'll have better luck! :)

No Monster Cable has lasted longer than 1 year for me.
:(
Musicians Friend is great about replacing them but what good are they if you can't rely on them? I switched to all Planet Waves and have had ZERO problems in 2+ years time.

i use a power conditioner.

it has to do with the contact on the input jack. i bent itover a bit, and it works ok. eb said they would send me a free one, which was cool of them. i just have to start knotting the cable around the strap so it doesnt pull when i accidently step on the cable while jumping around.

hellfest=largest hardcore festival
it's once a year, 3 days. there was like 90 bands that played this year.

but after this weekends shows, and next weekends shows upstate ny, im bringing my music man in for repairs. having all the wiring re-done, a new nut from eb, to be cut and installed, and offcourse, the input jack the will hopefully be here today or tomorrow.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a "power conditioner"?

Power conditioners seem popular in the US, perhaps they have lots of power spikes or voltage fluctuations over there? As I understand it, a power conditioner is a voltage regulator that smooths out any surges or variations in supply voltage.

I never had any problem using regular electricity,

but I use a power conditioner for two reasons:

1: one plug, one switch.

2) same reason I have insurance, just in case.

it does regulate the voltage and also helps to cut down on noise from dirty electricity (which you'll find in most bars and clubs.)

it's really what you don't hear that makes the difference, not that it sounds better.
