Generally speaking, they totally ruin other guitars for me. Only exception in my gear is my Washburn N4 - very simple guitar, but the neck is killer and it's also bare wood.

Yeah- Foggy- just do it buddy. Buy something used and then flip it when you order your Silo! Think of all the time you could be playing!

For me, it simply boils down to the fact that I don't want to play anything else any more... Even when I owned other guitars (and now, I only have my ol' Ibanez Franken-shredder left), I simply let them collect dust until finally I let them go. When I play, my hands just want to grab an Axis - even my Silhouette and Albert Lee are sorely neglected for the most part, though they do see sufficient daylight to earn their keep, even if it's just barely... I don't think other guitars are "ruined" for me, but I have no interest in bothering with them - I've been down that road before; I've owned LPs and SGs and Strats and Teles, Jems and Soloists and PRS Customs, Dinkys and ASATs and bevy of lesser guitars... none of them do it for me like the Axis.

For me yes and no. There is no doubt that the necks of MM guitars are second to none etc. etc. etc. But, I'm the type of guy who gets really affected by the guitar I'm playing. If I grab a big jazz box, I find myself playing a lot of dominant chords and defining chord changes in a jazz fashion. lol. There is still nothing better for cranking out For The Love Of God than playing a Jem. lol.

Imagary is a powerful thing so even though MM is my fave manufacturer overall, I still love guitars and I can definately play others and not feel they are junk.

Absolutely ruined me on any other guitar. I've been looking for a cheap guitar for gigging because I want to preserve my EVH as best I can to hand on to one (or both) of my sons when they're older. So far, I've gone through a Tokai Love Rocks L*s P**l copy (fantastic guitar by the way), an OLP MM1-FR (also a great guitar), and a *cough*vey *cough*lfgang, which I thought would be the closest to my EVH neck wise, feel wise. I didn't pay too much for it, and let me tell you, the neck on it can't touch the neck on the EBMM. I can't believe they're both EVH guitars. I will admit I loved the bridge pickup in it, but also, the neck pickup couldn't touch the EBMM one. It probably had to do with the fact I bought a *cough*vey *cough*lfgang Special and it was only Basswood, no maple top, so it was a little darker sounding. But yeah, I've got to save my pennies and buy an Axis.

+1 for the N4. I got one last year because I liked my N2 so much. those things are the reason I put a L-500 in the bridge of my #1 axis SS.

Foggy, if you had put a dollar into a jar everytime you've posted on here, you'd already have one. I might start doing that myself. ;)

nope..I love my lynch with the JB in it...I actually always come back to it..it's been THE guitar for me for about ten years now..

I'm still waiting for my buddy to put the rio grandes in my petrucci...who knows, if it works out the way I hope it does, maybe that'll become my main axe..lol...

as it is, and I hate to admit it cause I really do like the guitar, because of the pickups in it JP6, I haven't spent much time with it...

Speaking of cheapies...

Last week on eBay I bought one of those $100 Saga Telecaster knock-off kits. I used to build model airplanes and cars when I was a kid, so this will be like an adult model-building experience. Also, I figure it will be a good father-and-son project to do with my 5-year old. Lastly, when it's done, I can keep it on a stand in the living room for whenever myself or my wife want a cheap guitar to noodle on.
My buddy just bought a similar kit - fantastic guitar - and he (and I) learnt a lot from it.
Hope it turns out just as nice for ya!(and your boy).

That Jackson Phil Collen model is nothing to laugh at , those are extremely nice guitars. People may not know it, but the guy is a closet shredder, he can cut loose when he wants to.
I Love Def Leppard. Excuse me, gotta go tease my hair . . .

Seriously - I thought Steve Clark had a great feel as well.

I have tried to play my Strat a few times since I play a little SRV-esque stuff and like that single coil sound. Unfortunately the thick finish makes it feel like my left hand is glued to the back of the neck. I don't know how I ever played speed metal with that thing. ? ? ? Maybe if I strip/sand all the finish off the neck and use some gunstock oil and wax.

I have recently acquired a few unique vintage guitars that I play for the "sound" you just can't get anywhere else - like I have a 44 year old Gretsch I bought Friday and have played it all weekend long.

I love my JP and can't wait 'til I get my second EBMM. Maybe in a year or so.

You know what? That was exactly my reaction to it as well. I've had it now for around three years. I always had it at the number 2 spot behind my Axis, but in the last 6 months, it's taken over the number one spot. I've really grown to love the PUs in that guitar. I've just really been smitten with how distinct each string comes across, even at ridiculously high gain. It's unreal. I never would have thought it would take over, but it has! Kiind of like the second fiddle/not cool girls in those 80s John Hughes movies sneaking up to get the guy at the end of the move type thing. So don't give up on it just yet. You never know when the ugly duckling may become a swan.

Well, I would not call it ruining in the first place. I would call it enlightenment in the guitar world that we live in. I just have not found any other guitar to feel as comfortable and versetile as my Silo. However that is not to say that there are not other company guitars out there that can do it for you as well in a different sense. For example I have an Ibnz RGT42 neck through, that has a finished neck, but I dont mind it. It's true that it is no where near as nice feeling as the oiled wood on the MMs, but I look it as that guitar fits into my other personality. So I do play it a good amount, and also have not found any other Ibnz that feels like the RGT I have as comfortably. However from the point of buying the Silo, I am no longer looking to buy any guitar from another company. I have 2 EBMMs on my future purchase list already, and that's after about 2 months of having my Silo.

too late! lol..those pickups are just about gone =) my buddy's slappin' some rio grandes in them soon...

people told me the same thing about the axis pickkups....I hated those as well...i'm sorry, I just don't like dimarzios...my buddy has a super distortion and I hate it..he also has a tone zone and I hate it..lol...adn I even replaced the stock jp pup with an evolution..and I hate it...LOL...

no offense, I know people like what they like..and I'm obviously in the minority here as most seem to love their EBMM's with the stock pups....

Everybody hears things differently... people like different pickups, nothing wrong with that. When JP did the forum chat a while back I asked about his using an Axis during warmup and stuff on the EBMM videos, and what he thought of it. Summed it up pretty nicely with it's a great guitar, just not me.

I love the sound of my Axis and the pickups, they're very smooth. It is a fantastic guitar to own. However, there are other guitars that are more me. My Axis is more EVH then me to some extent and I'm sure it doesn't help that I bought it in Trans-Gold ;)

Basically this thread is about if you start playing EBMM guitars do other guitars pale in comparison. I'd say no. I think Big Poppa would say no as well. I'm pretty sure he has said as much, once or twice before in different threads. There are lots of great instruments out there and EB makes some of them. Like I said earlier, you can buy great Fender's, Ibanez, Jackson... whatever. They're just all different.

Though, the consistency of the EB guitars is definitely better than alot of other companies. You don't really have to worry too much about 'getting one of the good ones'. They're all pretty much, good ones.

I agree, they're all pretty good quality wise from my experience..
