petrucci still uses his basswood JPs
but its little wonder why he would probably prefer to use the bfrs and would use them more often
i assume he'll use all 3 now.

On tour at least, he's used BFRs exclusively since they were released, except for his doubleneck that was based on the basswood version. In recent videos of Dream Theater touring in South America, he used both the BFR and the JPX, mainly because he uses a few different tunings, and he used BFRs for all of them except standard, where he sometimes used the JPX. It's possible that he could switch to the JPX exclusively though if he gets a bunch for his different tunings.

Oh I forgot, JP's tech posted stuff about it on the JP forum. He said he uses BFRs for his non-standard tunings, and he plays the JPX or the BFR depending on whatever he feels like playing. I would also assume that his amp settings are adjusted more to the regular BFR, so that's why he still uses them more. But he could get all JPXs and that would change. I just want to use the JPX exclusively so we can see some cool one-offs haha

What Hendog said makes total sense, as he must have favorites that are his go to guitars besides just adding the JPX. Then of course live, everything has a backup.

Pretty sure he doesn't have too many backups. On the Chaos In Motion DVD his tech mentions not having any backups for alternate tunings.

Also, I don't think the amp settings need to change at all. The JPX is very close to the BFR as far as tone goes...just more attack and some resonance...

Actually I talked to JP at length today. He got a smoker!

He brought the HJPX to the master class in Spain...He is playing all of them

He is bringing out the original mystic dream for the Iron Maiden tour. He loves them all...

Its funny most artists have a favorite I asked him which one is his do to guitar and he said"I have so many and they are all great and many have different tunings but there is a tobacco one and a matte black sparkle that probably get a little more love...he had to think about it!

I remember when he switched to the BFR, in no time thats all he played.

Does he exculsively play the JPX now?

Don't forget exposure helps get units out the door.
He actually likes the guitar though which helps even more.

Many artists get guitars made for them and marketed but never use them.

For example:...
Pete "Research" Townshend had an SG out and seemed to always play strats.
Angus never played his SG.

It is a testament to EBMM that the artists actively thrive to play the guitars that are made for them and ultimately they are production models for most part also.

Don't forget he is in his honeymoon period with the JPX too.

Wow, lol thanks for the anecdote BP! Smokers and BBQ's just crossing all kinds of boundaries now!

But I have to agree with JP, there are two finishes I absolutely adore, and that's a black of some sort and Tobacco burst. I LOVE tobacco burst.

Yeah, I kinda laugh at all the "artist" models put out by the big two as the artist doesn't play them live except for EC.

That's awesome he's got a smoker. I didn't know you could smoke protein shakes! :D

And what great exposure for EBMM during the whole Maiden tour. People who have never heard of DT will get to know the JP and Bongo. And it's great marketing for EBMM with him bringing out all the different JP's, including the mystic dream, on the road. "daddy, I want that color shifting guitar!"

with this make the wait time longer when you guys are flooded with orders?

:D

Lefty, you can smoke anything. I'm in hog heaven with my new smoker and I'm sure JP is probably digging his. The whole "set & forget" digital controller makes it incredibly easy to get great results.

I'm looking forward to the DT/Maiden show, it's going to be great!
