Try the Blackstar stuff before spending your cash.
I'm using the Artisan 30 head handwired series then get all my distortion from a Blackstar HT Duel pedal.
They also do Series One which has multiple channels depending on which model you go for and now do the HT Venue range which is very affordable but still has great tones and multiple channels.
Peavey also just released the 6534, a 6505+ head with EL34 power tubes. Might be worth looking into that if 100 watts isn't too much power. If you dig the 6505 combo, and it gives you the sound that you like, buy it.
I'll put a plug in for the Egnater Renegade. I've been very happy with mine. Worth a look anyway.
I hate to break it to you guys, but IMO, the only people our gear speaks to is other guitar players. The people in the audience don't give a rip or even know what the difference between gear is as long as we sound the way they want us to sound. They paid to see a dancing monkey. As long as you look like a dancing monkey, they don't care what brand of underwear you have on.
But we enjoy it. And yes, to other guitar players, you are saying something about yourself. Should you care? No.
