All sounded fantastic and got a lot of tones from that Stingray.

What did you do?

I'm guessing you rewired the preamp and pickups.

Watched it again and this time noticed that you added toggle switches!!!

Very cool, bold and daring!

Again, great tones.

Good job. Please tell us what you did and how you did it.

At the 1:35 mark, that series slap tone is wickedly good. Mid-rangey and rubbery. That's right where I like it...

Oh, perty, You are killer bass player! :)

I see, You modified Stingray into some kind of "Alnico Sterling", plus one more switch position, inner coil alone, right?

So You have now series/parallel H and both singles alone right? (4-way switching)

But how did You managed phantom coil, if there's any at all?

P.S. ...which strings are used for this vid?

Phantastic playing, I bet any bass would sound good in any setting when you play it...

About the mod: Well done! Plenty of new tones, while maintaining the MM vibe. It's a bit similar to what you can get from an HS 'Ray. :)

Millions of Jazz Basses live without it.

So A and B are the toggleswitches? But can you explain that diagram with some words. I am not such a techy...

Talkin' 'bout J Basses, I know, I owned one, ...only when both pots were full on = no hum, in any other combinations always was some hum present, OK maybe less when fingers were on the strings, but always present!

Upper A and B are coils, Coil A and Coil B.

Lower ABC and DEF are two 2-way switches, ground symbol is ground :D and red + is main output to the hot pole of the jack connector!

So, we do have here 4 possible rewire options, very simple and very compact!

Congrats perty for Your enthusiasm! (I'm too old for this s*** :D )

P.S. ... I was even contacted CS some time ago about consultation about slight rewire on my HS Sterling, but I quit, decided to take one more Music Man with different pup config and switching/EQ options! ;)

Nice tones, and good on anybody who has skillz to do what they want to do to their instrument in a professional & effective manner.

Now I, OTOH, don't want a soldering iron (especially in my hands) anywhere near any of my stock basses, unless it's for a needed repair!
For instance I have an "other" bass w/ double-humbucks that has coil split toggles for both pups- Kewl, but truthfully, it's almost too much of a range of eq- as opposed to dialing in on a simple plug/play bass.

I've another that famously has no tone control; just Vol-Vol, and it's widely modd'ed to include a stacked VT. Not me nuh-huh. I roll-off just fine thanks.

I won't even do the mod that replaces the ungainly pup cover w/ a bezel on yet ANOTHER! one of my basses!

(I have used aftermarket stuff like a paricular bridge, considered to be bad-ass, on yet another! Bass...)

I dig the tones you got on that vid-
The inner purist voices in me would say "Leave the Ray alone!"

But I wouldn't want to kill you; as I say-I admire your initiative,, your skills, AND the tones- Enjoy!

I play only with my fingers and they are allways on the strings, so there is almost no hum.

BTW this is how it looks:

Very nice and clean job You did there!
Very simple and compact little switches, matching perfect to this chrome plated pot board!

Hope that solder work is done properly too!

Congrats one more time for Your enthusiasm! ;)
