Welcome to the forum DRF.

With a bass that ugly some of us just couldn't resist poking fun at it (me included). If that mod made the bass do what you needed it to, great. Its not like that bass was a one of a kind stingray before. And you said yourself that it was in so so condition when you got it.

If no one ever tried something new with electronics we would still be playing uprights .;)

Well, I've certainly been known to modify my basses to my liking--they just don't usually look like they've been assimilated by the Borg. :-D

If you have been trying to get it back, then it obviously does what you need it to, so more power to ya.

I still think you would lose quite a bit of the "Ewww" factor by adding a pickguard. There are a lot more options in custom pickguards now via the internet than there were 10 years ago.

But, truth be told, I think you ENJOY it being ugly. :D
