Dr. Jim Marshall RIP

Sad to see the legends go. Thank you Dr. Jim.

I was lucky enough to meet jim on several occasions - the first being in 92 with LUM at the Scottish Music show - he was larger than life smoking his cigar at the Marshall stand. He spoke to Lum and I like real people not just kids, I will never forget that. I was lucky enough to meet him later on and when his health got worse. I did feel he was being paraded around a bit at recent shows. His nurse was enocuraging him to stop signing autographs the last time we met but he went ahead and kept on until every single person in the queue had pictures taken or had a signed poster - A true legend, a true innovator and truely the godfather of rock.

my thoughts go out to his family, and I pray that the next generation (Vicki and Paul) carry on his legacy despite market trends to offshore, Marshall is a truly British institution and it needs to remain so.

legend and very nice guy - He seemed so happy and thrilled whenever i saw him at signings - like that was his fav thing to do .
I remember he had me come around behind tables for a better pic at london music show a few years ago.

On occasion, when I spoke to his PA Ellie, she said that there was nothing they could do to stop Jim going to the shows - he loved it, and it kept him going. He just didn't roll over.
The look on his face when I gave him a Monte Cristo #4 cigar was priceless. He said "Kev - thanks for that , I'll smoke it when my nurse has her back turned.". Ha nice one Jim.

Just received a reply to an e mail I sent to his PA.
a little snippet from it states .....
.... " It is indeed a sad day for us all but we can take comfort knowing that Jim’s legacy will live on forever."

I think most guitarists played/owned a marshall at some stage of their lives. I sold my marshall a few years ago and now use blackstar amps but they wouldnt exist today only for Jim Marshall himself. Two engineers who worked for Marshall amps for over 20 years left and setup Blackstar so i reckon alot of their success in business is down to Jim himself!!!

The only Marshall amp, I ever own (and I still have it) is something that is not typical Marshall it's an acoustic amp

Very sad new indeed...just about every player out there owes Mr. Marshall at least one moment of silence before they crank their amps up to 11 again!

Dear Dear Jimmy - I log on here I read this for the first time - very sad news indeed.

The visit to his factory. meeting Jim was something that will live with me for the rest of my life.

Jeff - it was just surreal. I've prolly already said it was a meeting with his PA at an exhibition which led to me and my mate visiting the factory - we observed the manufacturing process from start to finish. A lot of people don't realise that Marshall helped Vox to "re gain" their sound. and I saw the remnants of of Vox PCB's around the factory..Meeting Jim, his daughter and the board of directors was a privilege - and I'm so lucky to have had the chance. If you kept the whole of your life in a diary then the page describing the day when I went to the Marshall factory would be underlined in red!! I have a few more pictures from it and will see my mate and ask if he will host them on his server together with a full write up.
My amp - man I gigged that a lot and really took care of it - it's by the side of me as I type - won't ever get rid of it.
