arrived last night. A must for any DT/JP fan. I was thrilled with it except for:

1- the mix- sounded like a direct board feed and lacked some of the intimate live feel.

2- LaBrie- singing was great, but he's been downing alot of cheeseburgers. Sort of losing that rock star look.

I missed their show in MSP.:(

Setlist: great
performance: superb
Sitrucci guitar: niiiiiice! But didn't sound any different (to me) then his regular sigs.
JP- you been hittin the weightroom? pipes man!
Portnoy- still a wild man. with a mirror in front of him:confused:
Myung- a rock
Rudness- love his style
Orchestra- lots of classy people. tasty. meshed well with the DTers

just buy it!

I just watched dvd 1. Man I really want that 20th anniversary guitar of his! I was surprised at the set list because they played a lot of songs that I usually skipped over on their cds. At first I was thinking that they must have been new songs, but then I realized that I have them already. Not that they're bad songs, I just need to go back and listen. The set list may be because they didn't want people to get the same songs when they buy their live dvds. Overall, I thought it was a great show and I can't wait to watch dvd 2 with the extras.
Great performance by all in the band! Man I love Petrucci's tone.

Just picked up 2 copies today.
I agree, it wasn't as intimate as I thought it would have been, but it was still worth the $$ Pete paid for them :D . I could have done with a little more crowd noise at the beginning because that place was screaming for the intro! Beatles on Ed Sullivan anyone? But I digress, I will watch the rest of it tonight and plan on being as awestruck watching the DVD as I was seeing it in person.

the DVD is cool, but i don´t like the sound at all.
james singing is great on it, the orchestra is perfect placed with this kind of setlist.
but things i´m missing: a powerfull song form TOT, the sound like it is on the Budokan DVD.

overall a very good DVD and CD and must for DT fans as well.

The crowd noise in person was deafening. It was an amazing experience, and I'm enjoying the DVD right now as I have dinner. :D

Seeing JP bust out the prototype that night, and then keep playing it song after song made me feel all warm inside. Or maybe that was just me wetting myself. I had a great time, I'm glad I can relive it through the DVD, and I hope a JP guitar similar to the prototype is produced in the future. I'm dying to get my hands on one now! That thing had the best piezo/mid pos. tone I've ever heard.

BTW, it's "Dream Theater," not "Dream Theatre."

Watching it right now. Got chills during "I Walk Beside You." Rocking out to the solo in "Under a Glass Moon."

To a certain extent all DT setlists are like this. Mike Portnoy is always checks to see what DT played in a particular city over the past few tours. Then, he tries to tailor the setilst to give the fans in that city some different songs from what they got the last time DT came to town. Same goes for the live recordings. He tries as you suggest to try to give different stuff each DT do a live recording. One notable exception is some of the similarities between "Live at Budokan" and "Score." In the commentary to "Live at Budokan," he said something to the effect of, "I don't know why the hell I put so much of 'Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence' in this setlist, because I wanted to do the whole thing together on a live recording." Of course, the thing that makes it "okay" is that DT did the entire 6DOIT with an orchestra this time.

Pete, I thought I caught a glimpse of a guy that looked a heck of a lot like you in some of the shots of the crowd in the RCMH lobby.

Man, the prototype was incredible. I love the sound he gets on the intro to "The Spirit Carries On."

Hmmm...I've watched the VH1 short set a couple of times now, and I really wasn't crazy about Labrie's vocals. I liked them (and the mix) better on Budokan - so much so that I was a little hesitant to pick it up. I did it anyway...will probably watch the whole thing later this week.

I got the CD and DVD today. The playing is just fantastic. The sound on the CD is really disappointing with hardly any bottom end. The bass and the bass drums and floor toms are really low in the mix and it is like someone really screwed up the EQ on mixdown or mastering.

I was really surprised because DT's other live recordings sound great and I was thinking that this special event in a special venue would receive the top notch sonic treatment. The DVD sound is a bit better than the CD. I am wondering if the mastering of the audio track was done for a 5.1 surround system and then just squished into two tracks for the CD.

Still, despite the sound there are some magical musical moments and any DT fan should rush out and buy it :)
