Dream Theatre DVD- Score (20th anniversary tour)

Well I just bought it myself couple hours ago. Have not watched it yet, but either way I had to have the memory of me being there in person on DVD. I can show my kinds one day the DVD and say that I was there, and maybe I will be able to get a glimpse of me . I dont care about the mix THAT mushc at this point, because it was good enough just being there . But I want to see the close ups of course of the Hybrid JP and all that good stuff. I'll watch it tonight and add some more comments maybe.

Pete, I thought I caught a glimpse of a guy that looked a heck of a lot like you in some of the shots of the crowd in the RCMH lobby.

I saw one excellent possibility at the very very end of the documentary, and I think Roubster's friend that came to the clinic (I forgot his name) was in the shot, too. A couple people from the JP clinic found me in the lobby.

I picked it up last night and it's been playing on my computer all morning. I can't understand the complaints about the sound quality. It sounds pretty damn good to me.

I haven't had a lot of time to actually watch it though, it's been background music so far. I'm still waiting to see the new guitar...

I like how fresh the old stuff still sounds.

What can I say. I love this band. They are amazing true virtuosos in their craft. Everyone is a phenomenal musician. I did not get to watch all of it but as I usually do when getting a new CD or DVD, I skip through it the first time. I will however say that when he pulled out the sitrucci, it just looked BEAUTIFUL and it sounded great. I also liked the documentarty on the second DVD it really gives you a little more insight into the band. Anyway I have been a fan since images and words and I am just glad they are still rockin and hope that they will continue for many years.

Watching it right now. Got chills during "I Walk Beside You." Rocking out to the solo in "Under a Glass Moon."



To a certain extent all DT setlists are like this. Mike Portnoy is always checks to see what DT played in a particular city over the past few tours. Then, he tries to tailor the setilst to give the fans in that city some different songs from what they got the last time DT came to town. Same goes for the live recordings. He tries as you suggest to try to give different stuff each DT do a live recording. One notable exception is some of the similarities between "Live at Budokan" and "Score." In the commentary to "Live at Budokan," he said something to the effect of, "I don't know why the hell I put so much of 'Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence' in this setlist, because I wanted to do the whole thing together on a live recording." Of course, the thing that makes it "okay" is that DT did the entire 6DOIT with an orchestra this time.

Dude... Where on earth did you get a Live at Budokan with a commentary !? Mine doesn't have one, and everyone i've ever asked about it says the same. Is it hidden?
They mention on the 5 Years in a LIVEtime commentaries that they'll do one for Budokan (as they recorded those commentaries a few days before the Budokan gig, in Japan) but was gutted when I didn't find it. Let me know...


About Score - i've pre-ordered mine, (comes out Monday September 4th here) and I really cannot wait. I am a MASSIVE Dream Theater fan, and love every disc of theirs. Their live stuff always sounds great because they are such phenomenal players, and the live DVDs always rule. The tones always rule, and since I love JP's Road King rig (it sounded PHENOMENAL when I saw them last October) I can't wait to hear his tone. I hope this one has the cinematic quality of Budokan - I feel Live Scenes suffers from grainy pictures at times, although the setlist, of course, rules. I feel the setlist of Score was alot stronger than Budokan too. Overall, I can't wait.

He seemed a bit perturbed............I wonder if it's because "he" had to move it. Dude can't even keep up with a mic move........hahaha

All joking aside i remember Lars Ulrich of Metallica making a huge scene for a whole 15 minutes during a concert here because Hetfield accidentaly broke a lamp maybe 10 feet above the drum and some glass fell down on him !

Haha. I forget that guy's name. If it's still the same guy, he's been with Mike for years. He "retired" before the Falling Into Infinity tour, but he's been back for ages now.

It kills me that I can't remember his damn name.

Mike always swings the mic away after he's done using it. His roadie swings it in place for him to use. Sometimes Mike will swing it sort of violently if he sees a cue missed with lighting, etc...
